Proverbs 11: King James Bible
A Froward Heart – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter eleven, Verses 20-21
20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord: but such as are upright in their way are his delight. 21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – A Froward Heart
Back in early March, we discussed what’s going on with the froward, and why. You can see it here if you’d like to go and check it out. There’s also another one entitled: Oppressors and the Froward from a while back for your consumption. And here are the froward again, just as popular with the Lord as before.
Abomination isn’t a word that the Father uses lightly. Definition below from Dictionary.com
1. repugnantly hateful; detestable; loathsome: an abominable crime.
2. very unpleasant; disagreeable: The weather was abominable last week.
3. very bad, poor, or inferior: They have abominable taste in clothes.
There is no part of our makeup that the Lord looks deeper into, than the condition of our hearts. The Father is giving us his opinion of a froward heart. This is such a strong word to use about how one would feel about anything, that I struggle to find one with more punch.
Personally, I would suggest finding out through the Word what the Father considers an abomination, and do the exact opposite. It is a much safer way to do things, when you’re doing opposite of what the Lord hates.
But even better when you do the things that the Lord loves. The former would be to keep yourself from his proverbial cross-hairs, the latter would be simply to please him.
A froward heart does its best to be as contrary to the Lord as possible. And that includes all the things pertaining to righteousness as well. So when the Lord says through his Word that he sees a froward heart to be an abomination, is because it is staunch against what he had originally designed for that particular person’s heart.
Verse 21 reminds us that the sun rises and sets on the good and the bad alike, and that the rain falls on the just and on the unjust. Yes, we’re all stuck here in the same fallen world.
However, the Father has the ability to discern between the wheat and the tares across the face of the earth. And he will repay all justly. The wicked will fall by their own wickedness, and the righteous will be rewarded righteously.
King David said,”Never have I seen the righteous forsaken, nor their children begging for bread.” The Father (I believe) is far more involved in the happenings going on all around the world, than we even know how to give him credit for.
And a theme that we can find throughout the Word of God, is that he doesn’t forget the wicked acts of the wicked, nor does he forget the righteousness of those who love him. All that we can find even close to the Lord forgetting something, is forgiven sin.
He said in the scriptures,”Though your sins be as scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.” and also,”As far as the east is from the west, so far have I removed your sin from you.” Both of those were paraphrased by the way. Don’t hold them word for word, but you know what I’m saying.

Thank you for your Word, and all that is contained in it. Please examine us Father, and should you find any trace of frowardness in our hearts, please intervene and remove it from us. Cleanse us of these things Father, so that we can be better servants, and that much closer to being in the likeness of your only begotten Son Jesus. And it’s in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
Should the Lord examine you right now, would he find within you, a froward heart?
