A Gift – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter eighteen, Verse 16

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – A Gift

This is an interesting verse, in that it’s not specified toward meaning anything good or evil. This is a blank statement of truth.

What I mean by that, is that this can be taken in many different directions, all can be true. Some of those directions could be to serve the Father, others can be to serve man or selfishly.

In this devotional, we’ll go through a couple of those directions. We’ll break it down into two different categories: Fleshly and Godly.

The verse above is true as it would relate to meeting with someone of importance, or to persuade one’s influence to go your way. Where one may call it gift giving, others may call it a bribe. We learned how the Father looks upon bribes in a previous devotional called “The Bribe.”

In the United States, this goes on daily in our governments, both federal and local. Sure, it isn’t supposed to be going on, but rest assured, it certainly is. Lately, some officials have been caught in the act, and I believe that as of the time of me writing this (10-20-2017), there will be many discoveries brought to light, as to the behavior of some wildly popular politicians. Stay tuned.

This is a means for someone to get something they want. Can borderline between selfishness or an outcome that benefits something they favor. Often, if a bribe is found to be necessary in order to get something you want, you should probably reevaluate what that thing is that you want.

There’s a good chance that there is something sinful or flat out fleshly involved, and will not stay hidden for very long. Bribes are something done in secret, and for good reason in most circumstances.

I titled this sub title Godly, because the gifts that I’ll be referring to from here are from on high. Handed down to us directly from the Father, by way of the Holy Ghost.

When you think about it, the Bible is filled with all kinds of people, who stood before Kings, Princes, Governors, and Emperors, because of the display of the gift that the Father had given. Every prophet, apostle, and Christ Jesus himself are in that number.

The gift of the Lord leads us to the place that he wills for us to be if we continue down the road of his will. But that isn’t always the case. Sometimes, the Lord gives us a gift, and we squander it, or squander our time (and lives) around his gift.

But even still, the Lord gives his gift of the Holy Ghost without repent. He doesn’t take the Holy Ghost back because we’re not living the way we should, or doing what we should. Praise God for that!

It’s as if he knew in advance, all of us who would backslide, then repent. Although he doesn’t take back the gifts that he’s given us, doesn’t mean we won’t have to give an explanation about how we used it.

We’re all going to have to give an account, whether we used a gift wisely, or squandered it on earthly desires. Depending on what it is I suppose, but nonetheless, if the Father gave it, then it’s a gift from him. He’ll want to hear us all explain what we did or didn’t do with whatever it may be.

Did we make such a use of his gift, that it in time, brought us before great men? Or did it just sit there, unused, or buried in the dirt for fear of what might happen?

I’m reminded of the foolish servant who hid his talent in the ground, instead of investing it to make increase. And look at what happened to him!

Thank you for your Word, and for the many things that it teaches us about all of the choices and gifts that you have placed before us all. Please help us to use whatever gift you have bestowed upon us by your Spirit, and may we never squander any of the gifts that you have given. Above all else Father, we thank you for the precious gift of Salvation, which came freely to us, but cost you your precious Son. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Do you use what the Lord’s given you to the best of your ability, or have they been as a gift buried in the sand?
