Daily Inspiration from These Verses

While looking at this verse, and wondering what to write about concerning it, something struck me. And that would be, that we can’t understand both sides of it fully, at the same time.

Sure, we can understand it to an extent, and acknowledge the truth it bears. But can we truly say, that we have an in depth understanding of being merry when we’re full of sorrow? It’s been my experience, that memories of being merry, when feeling sorrowful, only kindles more sorrow, because the joy is only a memory, and not in that moment.

The same thing holds true the other way around. When you’re feeling great and all seems well, it’s tough to put yourself into the shoes of someone who’s truly miserable.

Either way, have you ever noticed how much easier it is to get stuck in sorrow of heart, than it is to stay merry? There are endless things this world hands us, in order for us to be laid low in spirit. But it usually takes something outside of the box to cheer us up.

A nice day, a pleasant word, or a word in season, something good happening to you or your family, etc.. But no matter what, it won’t satisfy.

For example, let’s look at money. I’ll bet there are tons of people who would think, they would have constant joy, should they run into a large chunk of money.

Let’s say you win power ball, and have become an overnight millionaire. All of your financial troubles are through forever! Well, then what?

That’s easy. You get rid of the old dying car and old falling apart house, and get yourself the car and home of your dreams! Well, then what?

You could get anything that you wanted anytime that you want, and go anywhere around the world, and do it all. Well, then what?

Nothing lasts, and money can’t buy happiness, but it can sure keep all kind of troubles at bay. But that’s not joy, happiness, cause for being merry, or anything along those lines. Keeping trouble away, is only that, and nothing more.

That’s an example of how money will not satisfy, but it goes for anything that can be done or found on this earth. I’ve said it before, nothing satisfies for very long, until something crops up to ruin your joy.

In comes reality… If we were to be as heavenly minded as (I believe) the Lord wills us to be, nothing that we can touch with any of our senses could remove our joy. If we knew full well, how much more real our eternity is, than the here and now, or even an inkling of what the Father has prepared for us, we’d never lose our joy.

That mindset is a certain way, to remove yourself from the grip of sorrow. The trick of it is, to stay mindful of it, when every fiber of your being wants to stay miserable. Another form of being ready in season, and out of season.

Thank you for being a constant influence in our lives, whether we know it or not. Thank you also, for the truth that you’ve given us through your Word, and all of the excellent promises that you’ve made concerning all of us. Help us to see past this grim world, when it’s working so hard against us. Bring into our remembrances always Lord, your love for us, your kindness toward all of us, and your loving will for our lives. Help us to better understand, that what you’ve prepared for our eternity, is far more real than where we’re living now. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Have you allowed the world to creep in, and deny you of your merry heart?
