A Precious Stone – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter seventeen, Verse 8

8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – A Precious Stone

There is a harsh reality that many people don’t seem to recognize. That would be, that nobody cares about different things pertaining to you, either as much or more so than you do. Think about that for a moment, and see if you can think of some examples.

Right off the bat, I think of pictures of kids as an example. Nobody else that you show those pictures to, will care about what’s going on, or who’s in them as you would.

The same thought may apply to the verse above, where it includes “to him who hath it.” In a way, that sense of preciousness is transferred from the giver to the receiver. The giver is blessed in several different ways for giving the gift, but the preciousness of it is transferred.

That is displayed in the verse, as it says as “a precious stone to him who hath it.” The giver either toiled or spent something on the gift, placed a variety of thought into it, took care to insure that you were available to receive it, and awaits with anticipation, to hand it over and experience the reaction.

For the person who has received the gift, there is the joy of receiving it (having a new thing), the gratitude that comes toward the giver, and the appreciation of the care and thought put in to the gift, etc..

A precious stone from one person to another.

You know, there is one who has taken great care, in order for us to have received a gift. There is one, who has placed many years worth of thought and patience into it. There is one, who has organized and ironed out all of the details, right down to the second, in order for you to be able to receive it. There is one who has payed the ultimate price, in order for us to have it. And there is one, who spent a long time waiting for the right time to give it to you.

That one is the One, who sent his only begotten Son to the cross and to die, as a sacrifice, paying off all of your debts accrued by sin, so that you don’t have to. This is the ultimate act of love, performed on your behalf, by the Author of Love.

There is no greater gift to give, that ever was, is, or will be, freely available to us who simply decide to believe it, and receive it. There are many other gifts that the Lord has been gracious enough to provide his Saints. But none are as vital, or as costly, as the free gift of salvation.

What he has given us freely, cost him everything, even the life of his dear Son. This is all foolishness to the world at large. But for we who believe, and have come to know Christ Jesus and the Father through the Holy Ghost, it is as receiving a precious stone every day of our lives.

Thank you for all that you have done for us, even before the foundation of the world. We thank you for the care that you have taken, making sure that you worked out every detail, that lead us to the point of our salvation, your free gift to us. Thank you also Lord, for the times in which we live, where we can abound in such a wonderful salvation, and come to understand things that the prophets of old did not live to see through. For all tings we give you thanks Father. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
