Proverbs 25: King James Bible
A Thirsty Soul – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty five, Verse 25
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Daily Inspiration from This Verse – A Thirsty Soul
Have you ever been so thirsty, that you can feel the cool of the dring reach all the way down to your stomach after being active on a hot summer day? I have, and what a relief it is to a thirsty soul. The Word says this about good news from a far country, but why?
To take the verse literally, let’s create some literal examples. News that might be as cold water to a thirsty soul could be an end to conflict. For example, what if we hear on the news out of nowhere, that North and South Korea have merged into a single and united Korea, free and democratic? For most of us that would be very refreshing, especially for those who have family stationed at the border between the North and South.
For all of us supporters of Israel, what if the Palestinians gave up and went to dwell inside the borders of Jordan, leaving all of Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, and the West bank open for Israeli occupation? That would end all kinds of future bloodshed, and I’m sure would be an answer to prayer for many (particularly for those awaiting a third temple to be rebuilt).
I’m just giving examples of some extremes that are out there, that might cause for some of us to view this as water to a thirsty soul. Good news like this doesn’t come often in a lifetime, but are mostly few and far between. Actually, it isn’t often we hear any good news at all unless it is monumental good news. The majority of the time it’s just bad news, fake news, or no news.
But there is good news that will always quench a thirsty soul when we start talking about the spiritual side of things. That good news is THE GOOD NEWS of the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s the kind of good news from a far away land that we all need to hear and hold on to.
And it is from a far away land. Heaven seems like an unreachable, impossible place to those who don’t have Christ Jesus, and for those who have rejected the gospel. But for us who are fortunate to have received it with gladness, and invited Christ in to our lives as our Lord and Savior, oh what good news it is indeed!
Being born anew in spirit, we become citizens of Heaven, still walking the face of the earth. We are actually supposed to be representatives of our Lord, and ambassadors of Christ Jesus. Talk about good news to a thirsty soul!
When times get tough, or when the troubles of this world tend to choke joy from our lives, I wonder how often we forget where we’re going soon? For some of us it might not seem soon enough, depending on how much we’re looking forward to walking the streets of gold on the way to see the Father. Or depending on the heaviness of our current burdens; this could also cause for us to want to get there immediately as well.
But we’ve all got a job to do for the Father, and when life is weighing us down, perhaps we should keep our eyes on the prize, knowing that we have a determined end, and it is to forever be with our Lord! The more we realize this, the more water we’re giving to a thirsty soul.

Thank you for the good news, the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, your only begotten Son! Help us to always remember your gospel, and to not forsake it through the noise that comes from this world. Please also help us to share the gospel when it is prudent, and put your Word in our mouths through your Holy Ghost as we do our part in spreading it into all the earth. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
