Daily Inspiration from These Verses – A True Witness
It is important to the Father, that we strive to remain a true witness. I say that, because it is brought up 41 times, just in the book of Proverbs alone! I’d say that’s decent evidence, this is something that we should be taking seriously, but that’s just my take on it.
Reason is, if we’re not being a true witness, what are we being? The answer is self explanatory. A liar, false witness, deceitful witness, etc… What part of partaking in any of that sounds like a good idea?
But do we embellish things from time to time? Maybe add some extra juice to a testimony? Well, if it’s for the cause of Christ, it’s all good isn’t it?
The answer to that is no, it’s not okay or acceptable to the Father, to embellish a testimony, in order to get someone saved. That is called false pretenses.
Someone may respond by saying, “But if someone gets saved because of added untrue information, incorporated into a testimony, doesn’t that make it more acceptable?” No, it doesn’t. If you find the need to make things up, even if it is for the purpose of leading someone to Christ, you aren’t leading, but rather, misleading.
A true witness will give an honest testimony, of what they’ve either seen, heard, or otherwise have experienced.
A false witness has many different avenues to take. They can:
- tell the truth, but not the whole truth, leading to a desired conclusion that is different than the whole truth.
- flat out lie from start to finish
- blend a hint of lie in with the truth, leavening the whole lump
- only include enough truth into a package of lies, in order for it to be more believable
One of the reasons why it’s so easy to be a false witness, is because there are so many different variations of the bullet list above, that for some, it comes first nature.
All of us who have come out of darkness, and have been brought into the light of God’s dear Son, Christ Jesus, have a testimony that needs no embellishment. Our testimony, no matter how exciting or mundane, is ours and ours alone.
A true witness, that we who have been Born Again have been given, is the power of God reaching into our lives, through the works, and the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. We can’t add to it or take away from it.
We’ve been saved! Many of us can remember the very moment, that we introduced ourselves to the Lord, and he introduced himself right back. Many of us see the contrast between what manner of people we were, vs. what we’ve become in the Lord. There is your witness! Why add to it?

Romans 6: King James Bible
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Galatians 2: King James Bible
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
2 Timothy 1: King James Bible
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Revelation 12: King James Bible
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Thank you for all that you’ve given to us today, and all that you’ve ever done, as well as what you will do. We praise you, and thank you for your Son, Christ Jesus. Thank you Father, that through your sacrifice, we have become the beneficiaries of such a gift, that we’ve never deserved. Should the time arise for any of us to make use of our testimony, stir inside of us the necessity to be a true witness, to save souls. Stay our tongues from even the slightest embellishment, so that our testimony would be straight and true. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
Have you ever noticed the temptations that come while trying to remain a true witness?
