Daily Inspiration from This Verse – A Wicked Soul
To be able to wrap our minds around what it is to have a wicked soul, we have to first understand what the word “wicked” means. Wickedness is often used akin to words like evil or malevolent. Though similar, these are not synonymous.
Being wicked, is to be twisted, or altered from an original state. I’ve heard it said that this is where we get the word wicker from, like a wicker chair.
Someone can be wicked, and not be outwardly evil toward anyone. That is one of the deceptive traits about the wicked. Also, it is one of the prime reasons that wickedness can weasel it’s way into a church and cause all kinds of trouble, like division or stagnation to name a few.
To have a wicked soul, is to have a twisted or altered soul. This alteration is from birth, and is one of the repercussions from Adam’s fall, moving from generation to generation.
This becomes steadily worse as one grows up. As I’ve said in the past, have you ever felt the need to teach your child to sin? I doubt it. It comes naturally, and it’s on us to teach children not to sin.
All of us harbored a wicked soul at some point in our lives. And this is only broken through salvation by Christ Jesus. He births a newborn spirit within us, corrects the twisting and wicked soul, and straightens it out. He causes our soul to be renewed, and refreshed; cleansed from the stains that come with dwelling on a cursed earth and a fallen world.
For us Christians, we need to always remember the place that we were in, when the Lord lifted us up out of the pit. Maybe we weren’t all evil as far as an outward appearance might go, but we were all harboring a wicked soul. This is one reason why Christ Jesus said to those around him that nobody’s qualified to be good but God alone.
Being wicked, one desires more wickedness. It really doesn’t matter what it is, so long as it’s somehow against the Word of God then it’s fair play, deliberately or not. Things of the Lord are foolishness to a wicked soul, because they are spiritually discerned.
The position we play as servants of Christ, is to first, pray for people who don’t have him in their lives, and are still in this wicked condition. All men were created to have a new spirit born within them, they just don’t know it yet, and may die not knowing it.
So the least we can do, is pray for these folks to be saved, cleansed, and set aright by the Father’s eyes. If we’re called to do more than pray, then it’s our job to follow that call prayerfully, by the lead of the Holy Ghost.
We are servants; ambassadors of Christ here in this place to be as a light shining in the darkness. Not squatters awaiting to be taken up to our new home. Every one of us has a job to do. It’s on us to seek the Father, and figure out what that might be to save the lost, and get a wicked soul converted, and received into the family of the Most High God through Christ Jesus.

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
Thank you for your Word, and for everything you teach us through it, both the big and small things. All of it is good, and faithful. Help us Lord, to learn how to intervene appropriately, to lead a wicked soul unto your salvation. Teach us to be diligent to follow your example, and to use and harbor all of the gifts and fruits of your Holy Spirit. Help us to rake more children into the fold. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do you recall how much differently you thought and behaved, when all you had was a wicked soul?
