Acknowledging the Lord

Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 3 P.18 – Acknowledging the Lord

January 16, 2017 by Brian Reynolds

Proverbs 3: King James Bible

Acknowledging the Lord – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter three, Verse 6

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses

There’s no fancy wordsmanship being used in the verse above. Do we acknowledge the Father in all of our ways?

This is one of those verses that is easy to remember, quote, and understand, but is much more difficult to follow through with when the rubber meets the road. When we see the word “all” being used, that can take one sentence, and turn it into a study worth volumes.

The trick to applying this verse to our lives properly, would be to first, figure out what our “ways” really are, to determine whether or not we are acknowledging the Lord through them. To help us think about that, here’s the definition we get from Dictionary.com

Ways: noun
1. manner, mode, or fashion: a new way of looking at a matter; to reply in a polite way.
2. characteristic or habitual manner: Her way is to work quietly and never complain.
3. a method, plan, or means for attaining a goal: to find a way to reduce costs.
4. a respect or particular: The plan is defective in several ways.
5. a direction or vicinity: Look this way. We’re having a drought out our way.
6. passage or progress on a course: to make one’s way on foot; to lead the way.

When contemplating what our own personal ways are, and to figure out whether or not we’re doing right by the Lord, here are some questions that might be helpful for self examination:

  • How do we view things, and does it line up with scripture?
  • Do our daily habits go crosswise with what we’d want to be exposed before the eyes of God Almighty?
  • When we do anything, do we do it clean, right, and as well as possible?
  • What’s the direction that the sum of your life is headed?

After answering those questions, take a look at them, and see where you can find Christ Jesus as their focal point. If you can’t find the handiwork of the Lord guiding these areas, perhaps it’s time to change your ways. Perhaps, you could be heading down a wrong path in that area.

After all, this verse is given to us by the Father, to provide us a method of attaining his personal guidance through the paths of our lives. But if we decide to stay on the paths that he’s not on, then we’re on our own.

Philippians 4: King James Bible

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Colossians 2: King James Bible

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

1 John 2: King James Bible

23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Prayer

Father,

Nobody will ever be more qualified to judge our ways better than you. Please convict our hearts to move us out of the paths of life that you’re not on, and place us on the right paths that you’ve prepared for us. Keep us ever mindful to acknowledge you in all our ways, for all of our days. And this we ask in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Amen

We know that our Father sees everything, and sees the thoughts and intents of our hearts, so we should also know that He will help us and guide us. We need to stay open to His correction and not work our own way for what we want, I’ve done that far too much, and it never works, we should always be open and our spiritual eyes focused on what we should do for the Lord. Praise the LORD! {:>)

      Hi there Andrew,
I’d describe us doing things our own way without any thought to the Father, as chasing our tails through a maze of exit doors. Acknowledging the Lord is a great way to put off prideful ways, and is a must to stay focused in Christ. As the Apostle James said:
      James 4: King James Bible
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now ye rejoice in your boasting: all such rejoicing is evil.

Thank you for your comment Brother, I appreciate it!
God bless you in Jesus mighty name!

Philippians 4: I had this verse on my kitchen wall. He will keep us in perfect peace if we do this. In fact, this word got me through some of the hardest trials. When I would sink into despair, I would arise by returning to this mindset.

Keeping the Lord first and foremost in your mind, deeds, everyday and in all things is walking in the Lord. When you speak to HIM in your mind instead of yourself and acknowledge him in all decisions you make. Then it is He who speaks to you to guide you and remind you of his word in all situations. Not your self. The self is our enemy. It is the Ego in disguise.

We came into this world crying for all our needs, including attention. Our desires became the center of our universe. Now Christ is the center. He must truly be, if we serve and follow him. This is the only one who can deliver us from the lusts of our flesh that drown men (and women) in SIN and perdition of our souls. Proverbs 27:20 “Hell and destruction are never full; and so the eyes of (natural) man are never satisfied.”

The first thing that we cease to serve if we follow Christ. Yeshua said to those who wanted to follow him; “Deny yourSELF, pick up your cross and follow me.” The cross is the Truth in all things. Yes, the truth. People don’t like it and can’t handle it. It means change. For me it meant to stop keeping Christmas, which was my favorite day of the year, and every other worldly thing that came against the TRUTH. Yeshua/Jesus is the Spirit of Truth. In ALL things…not just a few.

I meditate. It is my direct source to the abiding Spirit within. With meditation comes a mental process called “Mindfulness” It helps you focus on all you do in the minute, on the ‘Here and Now’ of living every minute with a goal in mind. That Goal is Christ Yeshua.

God bless you and your work in the Lord.

      Hi there Victoria,
The Word tells us to put on the mind of Christ. With the mind of Christ, we tend to the things that stay inside the will of the Father. When we start to veer away from that, putting on our selfish minds that are filled with that which we’ve picked up from the world, and start making decisions that put down the cross of Christ Jesus, and swapping that for the yoke of the world, we reap the rewards of doing so.

This as a condition that remains unchecked can roll us right back into a backslidden state, and oftentimes without even realizing it. When placing ourselves first, over the Lord and the things of the Lord, it’s not a reward from the Lord we seek, but that of this world, which is the enemy of the Father. A slippery slope for sure.

And you’re also right, the truth is on the endangered species list, under attack without relent in every form. BUT, the truth of the Lord which is THE TRUTH (Jesus is the Way, Truth, and the Life), shall never be silenced, shall never be defeated, shall never be dethroned, and shall never be forced into submission, to fashion into a lie.

That’s one of the tactics of the enemy… Take the truth and tack on all kinds of things that resemble a likeness of the truth, yet with a twisted definition, then propagating it as the truth. The word leaven comes to mind…

Thanks for your comment Victoria, and God bless you in Jesus name.
      Brian
