Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Assembly Required

Here are examples given, describing three different attributes of the Father at work. Not only are these attributes of the Father, but they are gifts given by him, to those who search them out.

Wisdom, understanding, and knowledge are all available to us if we only just search for them prayerfully, and through the Word of God. We need only to ask, and he gives to us liberally.

In the two verses above, we also see a sequence of events happening, all purposefully placed. You’re not going to have a safe place to put your stuff without your house being built, right? And you’re not going to have your house built, without first having plans drawn up in some way shape or form.

Wisdom would be the plans drawn up. A design is made and planned for, providing every insight into what will be required to break ground all the way to the last finishing touch. Materials are determined and whatever else is might be necessary to complete the building is anticipated for.

Understanding is akin to knowing how to interpret those plans, and follow them to the letter. knowing the best places to obtain materials and all the tools required in order to be most efficient. Understanding is carrying out the plans that wisdom has provided, until the house is completed.

Knowledge is akin to all of the valuables being moved in. The furnishings and other belongings finding places within the home where they are best utilized. Living Room furniture into the living room; bedroom stuff into the bedrooms, etc..

These three steps are in this sequence, because this is the sequence that the Lord has designed to work the best. When there’s assembly required I’m embarrassed to say, how many times I’ve tried to do things without having the wisdom to do it correctly. Trying to understand something without starting out with the wisdom of instructions lead to many headaches.

To this day, houses are still being built in this order. Cars, or anything that requires production or assembly follow this order. But when it comes down to living life, do we stick to this true and tested method of doing things?

Seek the Lord for wisdom, then understanding, then knowledge. The Word of God requires all three in order to fully understand it in many circumstances. When we’ve got only one of the three, or two of these three, things tend to get a bit pear shaped, rather than properly divided.

Tons of people, even “Atheists” have knowledge of the Lord and his Word, but they’ve got no understanding of it, nor any wisdom behind why it’s there in the first place. Or the other way round; one can have wisdom into the Word of God, and understanding, but take no time for the knowledge to come in, and fill the house with treasure of the Lord. Like a garden prepped and ready for seed, yet still empty.

I’ve titled this devotional “Assembly Required,” because some of us may feel as if we’ve been taken apart, and put back together incorrectly. We’ve found the sure foundation in Christ Jesus, but have been building a house that isn’t going by the plans.

The Word of God covers every area of our lives, whether or not there is assembly required. The Father’s ways are at times difficult to discern, but are always better than us going roughshod into the world that is hostile at best. We need only to seek from him wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, and he will provide.

Matthew 7:

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Luke 14:

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

1 Corinthians 3:

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Many of us have traversed through this world shooting from the hip, not having a clear direction given by you as to how to live, what to do, or where to go. Forgive us for not turning to you and your Word, and allowing others to determine our fate, rather than you. Help us to do things the way and in the order you’ve given us. Please grant us your wisdom, your understanding, and your knowledge, into all things by your power, by your Spirit, and through your Word. This we pray so that we are better servants and children that will bring you pleasure. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Have you often ruined something because you didn’t follow the directions when there is some assembly required?

  1. Happy Easter Bryan,
Just a mute point from a elderly sister. I have always felt knowledge would be one’s 1st action because that comes from reading the instructions which gives us wisdom to do the activity. Both are useless to one without understanding. In my case Algebra & Latin.

As a Christian I always found it encouraging that my being adequate was not dependant on this graded F student. My adequacy is in Christ Jesus. A new favorite scripture for me is Ps. 119:130, “The entrance of your words give light. It gives understanding to the simple.”

I don’t know if it’s me or you as you go through this latest hard time but it seems the Devotionals are stronger in the Spirit & giving me a deeper meditation on our Lords word. Thank you for your efforts to overcome & your sharing. Prayerfully, janet

    • Hi there Janet,
Amen & Amen. I hear exactly what you’re saying about our adequacy having nothing to do with our abilities. This reminds me of lyrics from a Petra song, which says something along the lines of our ability is of no concern to the Lord, but rather our availability. Great piece of scripture given by the way!

Thank you for your kind words about the more recent posts Janet. I don’t know which it would be, but praise the Lord for his hand moving you to dive deeper into the Word of the Lord! That to me is exciting stuff!
      God bless you Janet!
      In Christ,
