Be Sober Be Vigilant

Be Sober Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

That’s the Apostle Peter’s way of saying: Be sober, be vigilant, because your enemy, Satan, has no need to relax, rest up, gather strength, or back off. Neither do any of his cohorts. So keep your eye on the ball!

Here is a handful of knowledge from a Brother in the Lord,  “Bruce Bennett”, who would like to share a couple of lessons he learned concerning this topic, while walking his walk with the Father.

Please note, all scripture is quoted from the KJV.

By the Grace of God

trust-in-the-lord-be-sober-be-vigilant“Satan, Lord rebuke thee” Is one I’ve used to make a poor possessed soul run! Also by God’s grace was able to cast out 7 demons out of a younger child. It took twice to say it, but just Believe/Trust like “a little child”; un-doubting; if its God’s perfect will / timing then it will work!

If walking in His will, then it would be His Will and we know it always is His Will yet the timing to get full glory out of the child or those around him/her, but our Spirit; the Holy Ghost will give a grieving to belt it out!

James 4:

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 2:

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

And the Truth expresses that we must get the log out of our own eye if we are to see clearly the Way to get it out of our Brethren. And too: The Devil; as a roaring lion, walketh about whom he may devour, roaming about the heavens (lower Heavens where He was booted and after; a third of the angels followed; fallen in His lies) :

1 Peter 5 : 5 – 11

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

But the Devil is not to be toyed with as he is made stronger as is the angels; then we; in creature-hood (i’ll say) but definitely not in Favor; as Yes, “Greater is He that is in You… ”

but my point here is : Jude 1:

9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

But yes, that scripture “Greater is He,” is a great one to build ones faith when the Devil tries to scare us and whisper that we are no good, and God doesn’t love us anymore. Check yourselves to be sure you’re all confessed Up.

Even at 53 yrs old, I don’t forget the propaganda of misinformed movies in my youth such as ‘The angel-of-light-be-sober-be-vigilantExorcist,’ that makes us think we may be chucked across the room. Believers are not going to get any ‘Possession’ by the enemy or his emissaries, and the Devil is not omnipresent. Yes, in spiritual realm can get from one soul to another quickly but not all at same time. He, the Devil, is probably at the White House or the Vatican..

He has many emissaries…

My point there was the Devil or His emissaries can be causing issues on a very low level, planting just a seed of doubt. But if we are in derision, then it is God’s love that is seeking to have Us call out to Him!

Oh, comes to mind and I’ll abase myself for our learning; Old Testament story when that young prophet told by God, to go and heal a man’s hand and leave and not return (1 Kings 13).

Flirting with Disaster

flirting-with-disaster-be-sober-be-vigilantOne time after 7 years leaning heavy upon His pierced side and confessed up every day; keeping accounts short; weeding daily, and hands full of preaching one on one on a railway… But I went after the worse sinner on the Railway and even unbelievers warned me…

So I gained his favor and went fishing with him. After ministering to him the Gospel, (long story short,) ‘Oh just come for one beer… in that Indian bar in town…’ For some reason, lacking prayer perhaps, I went in and after 1 or 2 .

Eventually, some young Police office just come down from the Yukon; bursts in and me with a leather jacket on and standing to talk to him; “Oh, don’t worry,” I said. “I am looking after my friend,” (whom had 3 times as much in quick order and was nodding off.)

Just then, a guy that also looking bikerish stood up beside me, and with the loud music, the cop (was made to) assume we were opposing him, and went for throat!? Being an ex-boxer (yet only protecting myself from passing out,) as he lunged for my throat and slammed against the bar, I pounced Up and threw the cop across the table behind us as a knee jerk response to breath/live!

Yes, shameful that I even somehow got in that situation (1 or 2 pints?) But …

It took months to unravel from consequences and the fact I had a fishing knife on me belt; dragged down alley in handcuffs! I’ll have to make a post for our learning (one day) but…

Months later an old brother gave me this portion and said this is what happened:

You see an excerpt of what happened to that Young prophet told to go heal a man’s hand and leave and Not come back:1-kings-lion-in-the-road-be-sober-be-vigilant

1 Kings 13 : 18

18 He (and old prophets words thru his sons that rushed out to get young prophet,) said unto him, I am
a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.

Simply Must read back and forward on that story.  But to shorten…

When young prophet cued in that he had disobeyed God, (and essentially as me,) was out of God’s will, he cut dinner short and left that old/false prophet’s house. The moment he stepped out into the city’s street; out of seemingly no where, a lion ATE HIM!? DEAD!

You see, we must NOT toy with; Not just the Devil and /or enter Den’s of iniquity (thinking harmless..) and Nor with our old Wicked selves! The Lion there Speaks of Our Own Evil Nature that can cause temporary death/separation from our Maker/Lord, and our old wicked selves can pounce on Us; or Even Death!

God is not Mocked

god-is-not-mocked-be-sober-be-vigilantYes, just 1 or 2 beers in a bar brethren, and you have little protection from “He that is in You,” as You have turned your back on Him! God is not mocked! Reap flesh and get evil recompense! God can give governmental forgiveness but often takes a while…

Another story…

I almost got taken out on another occasion, of thinking that I was a prophet; against my brethren’s errors! God stopped me in my tracks with Ezekiel 13 and pointed out “making the Righteous Sad” and I did not “saith”??!!!

I repented so hard and fast; as King David would, that my shoulder burst out muscles to a big bulge, and Satan almost convincing me; I’m whacked! I almost Whacked myself!

Even my Brethren chimed in; to know the Exceeding Mercy of God. Slow to anger, but brethren… “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,” and God in His mercy had me breaking bread the next day! Even yet bowing low, because He did, after all, appreciate my heart’s zeal to want to go into a whole assembly as John the Baptist; “Ye Hypocrites and Vipers!” type thing.

Psalm 89:

7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

And too, watch about hyper – grace…

“God is not mocked”

Galatians 6:

6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

support-be-sober-be-vigilant3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

5 For every man shall bear his own burden. 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

And one more! When a young prophet was buckling under just what God wanted them to do! The Older, wise Prophet said:

2 Kings 6 : 17 (and too read back and forward; good one!)

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

We Pray Abba, Father for Wisdom of these things and to be balanced & wise in the things of Thee; The Truth! and to keep Evil simple..

“Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves”

in and through and by our Mighty Commander of angel armies! The Lord Jesus Christ!

Our Lord and bridegroom that is Soon, very Soon coming!

“Little children keep yourselves from idols”

These things must needs be told! Don’t take Sin lightly and if we are reaping to the Flesh! Watch out!

It’s not the Devil that is to be feared as Much as God!

Matthew 10:

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

He Loves You Way too too Much to leave you in and functioning AGAIN as a Wicked SINNER!

Ephesians 5:redeeming-the-time-be-sober-be-vigilant

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Keep Us Lord

O Keep Us cleaving

and Still Believing

leaning (Heavy) upon Thy Pierced Side!

Psalm 23:

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Pray for each other…

Words from Brian – Be Sober, Be Vigilant

If our enemy made things easy for us, what kind of an enemy would he be? It’s easy to look at a pentagram spray painted on a wall somewhere and recognize it as something satanic. The big and blatant stuff is strategically brought to the attention of Believers, so we’re not noticing the small stuff.

We can see the following being put on display here with the examples that Bruce has given us.

  1. A small suggestion that spiraled into being positioned outside the protection of the Father.
  2. the-religious-spirit-be-sober-be-vigilantA religious spirit, that always starts off small and harmless, then eventually, (such as what happened with Bruce,) you find yourself laying charges against fellow believers. The religious spirit (in my experience and opinion) is THE worst infiltrators that exist against the Body of Christ. These don’t arrive with a bang, and can take years to develop and contaminate the thoughts and minds of the afflicted.

This isn’t to say that people who suffer from this flavor of demonic oppression is not saved. Quite the contrary! These target saved people, and carefully (so as not to be found out) either root up or develop upon pride. The Apostle Paul warned about this happening.

1 Timothy 3:

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Read what people are saying about the book, “Not of this World: Out of the Mire!”

The hardest part of removing this hold over one’s life, isn’t releasing it’s hold, then repenting, and moving on free and clear. The hardest part is for the person to be humble enough to realize what’s going on, because pride will hold up different verses (often misused or out of context,) that will cause for the person to feel completely in the right, when in reality, they’re clearly in the wrong.

But thankfully, Bruce was delivered from such an oppressive religious spirit, and has clung hold to the grace that has been shed upon him by the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ!!! And from what we can read here, has taken his time of discipline and is using it for the benefit of others, giving sound warning via his experiences throughout his walk with the Lord.

And isn’t that what it’s all about concerning the lessons that the Lord teaches us? Sure, there are some that is only for our immediate benefit. But that’s much too narrow of a brush to use for the Creator of all things. Some things are for personal correction, others are for those who you relay experiences, that you’d be humbled and the Lord be elevated in conversations.

So as the scripture says, be sober, be vigilant, and always bear in mind that none of us can see around life’s corners.
