Did you know that there is a close relationship between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and you? Well if you didn’t, I’m happy to inform you that if you have been born again into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son, you are personally intertwined with this blessed fact.
You might ask yourself,”Well how in the world does that happen?” That’s what we’re going to be taking a look at as we discuss this amazing gift from the Father. Here are some base scriptures concerning the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, which will help explain where we’re going to be headed on this page.
John 14 16-17, 20-21
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
The Three Ring Chain
Studying God’s Word, you will find that terms like, ‘in Christ Jesus’ and ‘through Christ Jesus’, are peppered throughout the epistles of the New Testament. One day I was inquiring of the Lord what exactly these terms meant, assuming that the apostles used this phrase deliberately. Well, they did use them deliberately and the Holy Spirit gave me this mental image of a 3 link chain, similar to the illustration.
Yes you read that right. The Lord likes to show me things every once and awhile. Not because I’m anything all that special, but simply sometimes because I just ask. When he blesses me in that way, it is typically to simplify something that might be complex (to me anyways), and to further my understanding on something in his Word. Never a “New” doctrinal revelation or anything like that. Those are never necessary, nor have they been since we’ve been given all that we need to know in his written Word. So with that out of the way, let’s go over the illustration.
Top link represents God the Father. The second represents Christ Jesus, Son of the Most High God. Third or bottom link represents you and me. All the space inside the three links would be the Holy Spirit. The picture above is exactly how it was given me through the Spirit, having the lengths pulled out as far as it would go. This is representing the farthest one can be apart from the Father after salvation. That would not include those who willingly reject the Lord but had been saved.
Studying the illustration, one can note that all three pieces are within each other, effectively creating one length of chain. If you were to remove the middle link, which is Jesus, there is nothing connecting the top link (the Father), with the bottom link (you and me). We would be separated, as we were before accepting Jesus into our lives, hence the link of chain separated from the rest. Neither would the Holy Spirit be able to spread inside our link without passing through the middle link (Christ). In this illustration, the words of Jesus mentioned above are better understood when he said in John 14;6:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If you are not in Jesus, you cannot come unto the Father. Note in the picture there is no other link attached to the Father, only Jesus. So quite literally, we are in Christ Jesus, as our link is inside His. And woven through them all, coming down from the Father is the Holy Spirit, weaving the other three together, fulfilling John 14:20: At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
Closer Relationship between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and You
Here’s a picture of that same chain link, but with the links closer together. This is as close as we can get to our Father through Christ Jesus, and as you can see, the links are touching. I believe that this is the will of our loving Father, to be as close to him as possible. In this manner you can clearly imagine in Hebrews 4:16: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Another good verse that backs this up is found in James 4:8-10
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
And also demonstrates how Ephesians 2:5-7 is possible: 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Seated in Heavenly Places
Jesus has made us able to be seated with him in Heavenly Places! Try wrapping your mind around that for a minute. Because of this illustration between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and you, we can actually understand how we are able to be seated with him right now, in heavenly places! Not when we die, but right now!
We are personally connected to God the Father right now, by the Holy Ghost, in Christ Jesus! Now if that’s not something to be thankful for, than I don’t know what is! Remember that in all that you do. We are personally with him there, as well as here, according to the measure of the Holy Spirit we’ve received, and according to his Word! Amen and praise Jesus!
Don’t forget that it is through the Holy Spirit, that we are able to be given the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. And when we take a look at the above illustrations, we can get a better glimpse of how those mysteries are conveyed. Funneled from the Father, through Christ right into us via the Holy Ghost. Any other means is either coming from our own imagination (which would be considered a private interpretation), or coming from a different outside source, being demonic in nature, perhaps in an attempt to conceal it’s true identity; behaving as if it were the Lord.
Discerning the Difference
As Christians, one major fact in this life that we live is that there is a spiritual war that has been raging for many thousands of years. To be ignorant of this is spiritually (and resulting in physically) dangerous. This stuff is real, not some abstract “only real when you’re in the mood” kind of thing. It’s real all of the time.
As far as Christians go, Satan has his underlings out there, doing whatever it takes in order to find an access point into our lives, and will give people a revelation of some sort posing as the Holy Ghost. The Lord has given us liberty in his grace. Liberty to obey him, learn from him, to get to know him, grow ever closer to him, etc.. However, we also have liberty to ignore him, not trust him, to go against him, to stay ignorant of him and his ways, etc.. Satan and his cohorts will try to use this liberty that we have to persuade us to do the things against the Lord, even if our intentions are sound. Paul says it well in 1 Corinthians:
1 Corinthians 6:
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians 10:
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
If we are caught without our due diligence to get to know the Lord through his Word by his Spirit, how would we know what spirit we’re paying attention to? I’ll tell you right now, the Lord will not go against his own Word. Not even a small degree of separation, as the Lord is exact and precise. But it’s that small degree; even if it’s 9 parts truth and 1 part lie, will be the first step down the path of deception.
1 Thessalonians 5:
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1 John 4:
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Lead by the Holy Ghost
We can only know without a doubt by what spirit we are learning from by the above direction, which is through or in Christ Jesus the Lord, and by prayerfully getting to know him through his Word which testifies of him from cover to cover. That is the fail-safe method to expanding your relationship with the Father, by knowing who he is, and who he’s not, through the Bible. That’s where he’s put everything that he wants us to know about him.
Oftentimes, there are things in the Word that can only be understood by his Spirit inside of you, being the Holy Ghost. Things of the spirit are not carnally discerned, but are discerned by way of the Holy Ghost in us, leading us into all truth. That’s one of the many reasons he’s been made available to us in Christ.
