Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and YOU

Did you know that there is a close relationship between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and you? Well if you didn’t, I’m happy to inform you that if you have been born again into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son, you are personally intertwined with this blessed fact.

You might ask yourself,”Well how in the world does that happen?” That’s what we’re going to be taking a look at as we discuss this amazing gift from the Father. Here are some base scriptures concerning the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, which will help explain where we’re going to be headed on this page.

John 14 16-17, 20-21

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me

   The Three Ring Chain

Studying God’s Word, you will find that terms like, ‘in Christ Jesus’ and ‘through Christ Jesus’, are peppered throughout the epistles of the New Testament. One day I was inquiring of the Lord what exactly these terms meant, assuming that the apostles used this phrase deliberately. Well, they did use them deliberately and the Holy Spirit gave me this mental image of a 3 link chain, similar to the illustration.

Yes you read that right. The Lord likes to show me things every once and awhile. Not because I’m anything all that special, but simply sometimes because I just ask. When he blesses me in that way, it is typically to simplify something that might be complex (to me anyways), and to further my understanding on something in his Word. Never a “New” doctrinal revelation or anything like that. Those are never necessary, nor have they been since we’ve been given all that we need to know in his written Word. So with that out of the way, let’s go over the illustration.

Top link represents God the Father. The second represents Christ Jesus, Son of the Most High God. Third or bottom link represents you and me. All the space inside the three links would be the Holy Spirit. The picture above is exactly how it was given me through the Spirit, having the lengths pulled out as far as it would go. This is representing the farthest one can be apart from the Father after salvation. That would not include those who willingly reject the Lord but had been saved.

Studying the illustration, one can note that all three pieces are within each other, effectively creating one length of chain. If you were to remove the middle link, which is Jesus, there is nothing connecting the top link (the Father), with the bottom link (you and me). We would be separated, as we were before accepting Jesus into our lives, hence the link of chain separated from the rest. Neither would the Holy Spirit be able to spread inside our link without passing through the middle link (Christ). In this illustration, the words of Jesus mentioned above are better understood when he said in John 14;6:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If you are not in Jesus, you cannot come unto the Father. Note in the picture there is no other link attached to the Father, only Jesus. So quite literally, we are in Christ Jesus, as our link is inside His. And woven through them all, coming down from the Father is the Holy Spirit, weaving the other three together, fulfilling John 14:20: At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

Closer Relationship between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and You

the-holy-spirit-in-our-lives-father-son-holy-spirit-and-youHere’s a picture of that same chain link, but with the links closer together. This is as close as we can get to our Father through Christ Jesus, and as you can see, the links are touching. I believe that this is the will of our loving Father, to be as close to him as possible. In this manner you can clearly imagine in Hebrews 4:16: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Another good verse that backs this up is found in James 4:8-10
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

And also demonstrates how Ephesians 2:5-7 is possible: 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Seated in Heavenly Places

Jesus has made us able to be seated with him in Heavenly Places! Try wrapping your mind around that for a minute. Because of this illustration between the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and you, we can actually understand how we are able to be seated with him right now, in heavenly places! Not when we die, but right now!

We are personally connected to God the Father right now, by the Holy Ghost, in Christ Jesus! Now if that’s not something to be thankful for, than I don’t know what is! Remember that in all that you do. We are personally with him there, as well as here, according to the measure of the Holy Spirit we’ve received, and according to his Word! Amen and praise Jesus!

Don’t forget that it is through the Holy Spirit, that we are able to be given the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. And when we take a look at the above illustrations, we can get a better glimpse of how those mysteries are conveyed. Funneled from the Father, through Christ right into us via the Holy Ghost. Any other means is either coming from our own imagination (which would be considered a private interpretation), or coming from a different outside source, being demonic in nature, perhaps in an attempt to conceal it’s true identity; behaving as if it were the Lord.

Discerning the Difference satans-greatest-weapon-father-son-holy-spirit-and-you

As Christians, one major fact in this life that we live is that there is a spiritual war that has been raging for many thousands of years. To be ignorant of this is spiritually (and resulting in physically) dangerous. This stuff is real, not some abstract “only real when you’re in the mood” kind of thing. It’s real all of the time.

As far as Christians go, Satan has his underlings out there, doing whatever it takes in order to find an access point into our lives, and will give people a revelation of some sort posing as the Holy Ghost. The Lord has given us liberty in his grace. Liberty to obey him, learn from him, to get to know him, grow ever closer to him, etc.. However, we also have liberty to ignore him, not trust him, to go against him, to stay ignorant of him and his ways, etc.. Satan and his cohorts will try to use this liberty that we have to persuade us to do the things against the Lord, even if our intentions are sound. Paul says it well in 1 Corinthians:

1 Corinthians 6:

12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Corinthians 10:

22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

If we are caught without our due diligence to get to know the Lord through his Word by his Spirit, how would we know what spirit we’re paying attention to? I’ll tell you right now, the Lord will not go against his own Word. Not even a small degree of separation, as the Lord is exact and precise. But it’s that small degree; even if it’s 9 parts truth and 1 part lie, will be the first step down the path of deception.

1 Thessalonians 5:

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1 John 4:

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Lead by the Holy Ghost

We can only know without a doubt by what spirit we are learning from by the above direction, which is through or in Christ Jesus the Lord, and by prayerfully getting to know him through his Word which testifies of him from cover to cover. That is the fail-safe method to expanding your relationship with the Father, by knowing who he is, and who he’s not, through the Bible. That’s where he’s put everything that he wants us to know about him.

Oftentimes, there are things in the Word that can only be understood by his Spirit inside of you, being the Holy Ghost. Things of the spirit are not carnally discerned, but are discerned by way of the Holy Ghost in us, leading us into all truth. That’s one of the many reasons he’s been made available to us in Christ.

  1. Hi Brian, just would like to thank you for the information in regards to you book: Kingdom of darkness in a fallen world, I bought it for kindle very very enlightening. I thank you for all your hard work and how much you love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My only question in reading some of your other articles is do you believe that Jesus and the Holy Spirit is God ?? Or all completely separate ? Sincerely Dan Sandven

    • Hi Dan, great question!
How’s this for an answer, yes and yes. They are three yet they are one. It sounds like a cop out answer doesn’t it? Well, at least it sounds that way until we take a look at a piece of scripture that pulls it all together for us.
      Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

We’re not God lookalikes, right? So when scripture says the word image, it means something much deeper. I believe that what is being spoken about here, is the the unique attribute and likeness that we have with the Father, that no other being (at least that we know about) enjoys.
And that is being a spirit, clothed in a soul, and housed in a body. We have three different make ups, yet we’re one person.

I’m not saying that this attribute makes us little gods, but it is what I believe the Bible is referring to when it says that we are made in his image, or being made in the likeness of God. So having that in mind, imagine if all three (spirit, soul, & flesh) could act in perfect unicin with one-another, yet still be their own entity unto themselves… Each wearing different hats do to speak, or handling different responsibilities. That’s how I think they relate toward one-another. Like I said, they’re three, yet they’re one.

I think that this is the closest to an explanation that I can give to your question.

I might just write up a page about this, because I know I’ve written about it somewhere around here, but included inside an article, not it’s own page. Maybe I’ll do that… Anyways –
Thanks for your comment, and I hope that it helped you out a little bit. Thanks also for your picking up a copy of the book and your kind words toward it and the website! I appreciate it!
God bless you in Jesus mighty name!

  2. Great expose on the relationship between God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
I thanks God he left us with His Holy Spirit after Jesus left.
Thanks for using the chain illustration to describe our link to God. Jesus is indeed the link to God.
i look forward to more of your revelations.
Keep it up and well done for listening to Him and sharing your thoughts with others for liberation

    • Hi Kavinah,

Thank you very much for your kind words and your comment! One of the beautiful things that the Lord does for us when given a true revelation, would be to simplify something complex. He can do that in one sentence, or even one word. In this case, he did it with a picture in the brain with an explanation.

Thank you again for your comment and I am with you! Thank the Father for sharing his Holy Spirit which is always connected to the Father, through oour connection to the Lord Jesus Christ! All praise, thanks and glory to Him!

God bless you Kavinah, and I hope that you enjoy the rest of the site!

    • Yes I have Willard, and the biggest difference I’ve been able to determine is spelling. I’ve looked into the arguments concerning this just in case I was just ignorant, and the things I did learn were kind of interesting.

First thing is that the term ‘Holy Ghost’ is not used at all in the Old Testament, and the term ‘Holy Spirit’ is used in it’s place. Holy Ghost doesn’t come in till Mary comes into the picture with child by the Holy Ghost in Matthew 1:18. But still, both terms are used in the New Testament.

I’ve got a question for you. How many different names of the Lord are there in the Old Testament? Do we worship one God for each name? No way. We know that different people at different times called the Lord by something different. But they were all talking to or about the Lord. One God. Different generations speak differently. What was far out in the 60’s became cool in the 70’s then it became awesome in the 80’s. Know what I mean?
      Don’t forget this verse:
      John 7:39
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Holy Spirit is the same as the Holy Ghost. Is there all that much difference between the two words? Spirit and Ghost? If one guy said he saw a spirit in his house, another would say he saw a ghost.
      God bless you Willard.

  3. Keep up the good work! Whenever we get the opportunity to share Christ, we must take advantage of it. You are certainly doing this and I like the way you illustrate this on your site. Blessings to you and the work you are doing! I like the way you explain the Trinity on your site!

    • Hi there Rodney,

Thank you very much for the kind words. I’m happy you like it. To this day I blame the Holy Spirit for the content on this site as I’m not all that bright or good at this. Plus if it’s not something that the Lord would want on here, what’s the sense of doing it? Doing my best Brother, thank you for your kind words and encouragement!

      God bless you!

  4. Brian, I just don’t seem to be able to quite master small posts as yet hahahaha.
My dear brother, in Christ Jesus our LORD, thanks be to the LORD our God Jesus Christ you are my brother. I looked at your three ring chain illustration, depicting the meekness of the Spirit of God the Father our creator come to us in and, then the fullness of the same one Spirit of the Father who created us came down in also. I agree also, that the one Spirit of God the Father, of our Lord Jesus Christ achieved what He did in the flesh and blood body, the Father created in the womb of Mary the virgin Mother of God, God chose to come into the world by, by planting the seed of the meekness of the Father’s Spirit, into that body that God gave His name to Joseph, for Joseph to name the new born child of God, the Son of God the Father Jesus Christ our Lord.

Can I say, you, through the will of God our Lord Jesus Christ, gave me inspiration to draw a diagram, of the Star of God our LORD, above the place the magi followed the same Star of the LORD, that arose up, where God the Son was born in Bethlehem, with a silver cord ascending down from the fullness of the Star of God the Father, watching over the meekness of God the Father’s spirit, sown into the little child God had made for Himself to eventually dwell in, in fullness of the Father, at the baptism of the Spirit of God, then ascending down from heaven, upon the body and remained in the presents of John the baptist. So this is what my diagram I drew looked like… if you can grab yourself a pen and a piece of A4 and draw it as I describe it… I think you will find it quite enlightening, as it fits into the description of God, as the tree of life in the garden of Eden.
So here we go… at the bottom of the page, draw a little baby child, as if laying on the earth, like the same place God made Adam from…. then draw a silver line upward from the baby child, to about half way up the page, then stop… now draw some lines that splash out, as bright light resembling the Light of God looking down upon the meekness of God’s Spirit, sown into the baby one the earth… do you have a picture of a lovely tree of Life of God ? you should have, just a picture though, don’t get to excited lol… okay… now put all the Light of God and the silver cord attatched to the child, into the the child of the son of man you drew on the ground… now what you should have, is the Tree of Life of God the Father, sown into flesh and blood, now of God’s fullness, dwelling on the earth in the son of man.. having now, the Son in the Father and, the Father in the Son and, both the Father and the Son in the son of man the child, now all grown up and ready to start His ministry, as the one person, of the Son of God the Father our Lord Jesus Christ Amen.. God bless tell me what you think. Love the web page brother… excellent work in the LORD Jesus Christ and our Father is doing through you brother Amen.

    • Hi David,
Thank you for your comment and also all of your kind words. You had me till you brought up the silver cord. That’s not a biblical teaching but is most often found in some astral projecting descriptions and out of body experiences. A quick way to check out what I’m saying is to do a quick search on it, and you’ll find the occult usage of this term and it’s origins. I understand that it is mentioned in a very peculiar verse in Ecclesiastes 12, but is not a cut and dry kind of thing. So there’s no need to add to the Huge thing that the Lord did in bringing about the person of Christ Jesus his Son.

Now in my personal opinion, Jesus did not have a physical/spiritual link to the Father till the Holy Spirit came down upon him. Until then (I believe) he was flying solo. It’s after he is baptized in the Holy Ghost that he’s tempted, and continues on in his ministry. So through the Holy Spirit of God, Christ was connected to the Father, as an example to us who have received him, and that we are just like him in that aspect. Connected to the Father in Christ by virtue of the Holy Spirit in us. He has caused for US to be seated WITH HIM in heavenly places. All praise and glory to the Father, Son & the Holy Ghost!
      God bless you David.

  5. Hi Brian, your chain description is one of the best explanations I’ve ever seen of how it all works together to get close to Christ.

I’m a relatively new Christian and finding my way in the Lord, I am finding that sites like yours really help put the teachings into a clear and understandable way.

I thank you for your help and God bless you.

    • Hi Jay, thank you and I’m happy it helped you out. I know for a fact that the Holy Spirit guided me in every step of that one because I’m not all that smart. So praise the Lord for all that he offers us and reveals to us through the Word of his Bible and the Word of the Holy Spirit!!

      Thanks again Jay,

  6. Hi Brian
I am so blessed with your article. Very well explained, very clear. This is really difficult to explain but you have made it with the illustration.
I do commend your website to teach, preach and spread the word around the world.
I am also building mine (thelightandpath) and I would take your website as a guide.
    More power to you!
    God bless!

    • Hi and thank you Leo! It all snowballed when I was praying to the Lord about what the disciples were talking about when they would use the phrases ‘in Christ’ and ‘through Christ’. The Holy Spirit showed me this example and pretty much all the details.

Thanks again for the kind remarks and encouragement!

  7. I am back and just admiring your demonstration using the chain link like circles. It is a great way to simplify how God has the power to be and do what he wants and when he wants. An extradonary job here and I totally agree with. Theology has men wrongly interpreting this fact. Quite powerful and keep up the great work as it is much needed. Blessings

    • Hi Anewcreature,

Thank you very much for your encouragement & kind comments. I’ll do my best to try to keep it up. lol. To God be all the glory! This is just one way I try to be His vessel, It’s all the Holy Ghost and it’s all about Jesus! God bless you!

  8. May God not only bless you but your endeavor as well. I must say that I was truly surprise when I came to your page but as a man of God you know I stand with you heart to heart. Continue to make the sacrifice made on our behalf known by all mankind. You be blessedblessed and I will see next visit

    • Hi Anewcreature,

Thank you for your comment! But I have to say, if this is a sacrifice then I’m in good shape! lol. I enjoy this very much so I’d refer to it more as a labor of love. May God bless you as well as all of yours in Jesus’s name.

      Thanks again,
