Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Commit thy Works
Here’s another situation, where two verses go wonderfully together. Both are informative by themselves, but both together complete a picture.
What I mean is, if you were to formulate a question out of verse 3, the answer will be found in verse 4. Why does the Lord help our thoughts to be established, should we commit our works to him?
Because the Lord has made all things for himself. There’s the answer. If we commit our works unto the Lord, it is in his best interest to establish your thoughts, since they are geared toward the works he wants done. Even the works are his, since he has made all things for himself. All things, means all things.
He’ll even use the wicked to establish his purposes, and we can see that play out all over the Bible. I see it clearly through the gospels, and the crucifixion of Christ Jesus. Satan made sure it got done, and unknowingly, it was at his own peril.
Another great example, which I’ll leave up to you to go and search out, is the prophet Elijah, contending against the prophets of Baal. Check out the story in 1 Kings 18. An amazing account of the power of the Lord against the power of the enemy.
But not only that, you can see that the Lord was counting on the wicked behaving wickedly, in order to accomplish his own purposes.
There’s one piece of advice that I would like to share with anyone who would like to take it. When you make a conscious decision to commit your works or work, unto the Lord, be sure to give it your all, and do it prayerfully.
The last thing that you want to do, is commit your work unto the Lord, and take a hap hazard approach to whatever it may be. If anything, you should work harder, work smarter, work longer, with both feet planted in whatever it is that you’re doing.
This is God Almighty we’re talking about! This is our Father! We’ve already covered in several different devotionals, what his thoughts are toward sluggish or slotherly people & actions.
Also, when you commit your works to the Lord, put your blinders on. Don’t compare yourself against anyone doing better or worse than you are, just stay focused on what it is you’ve committed unto the Lord.
Reason being, is that he wants your best, not someone else’s best. He wants you to do what you can do, so that he’ll pick up doing the things that you can’t do. I learned this a long time ago, concerning work.
And I’ll tell you the truth. I wound up finding myself in positions that I excelled in, where I was absolutely unqualified to do. Commit your works unto the Lord, and work as unto the Lord, and you’ll succeed in things that you’ve never thought you’d be doing!
