We’re all created for a purpose. Some of us will see it through to the very end of the race, others will go by the way of the grave without their purpose ever realized.
But rest assured, for any of us who feel like life is pointless, there is an Almighty God who created you along with all the heavens and the earth, that would disagree. We are all created for a specific purpose.
The problem is, we don’t really foreknow what that purpose is. And should we assume that we know, and do what’s right in our own eyes only, we are prone as humans to get mixed up in all of the wrong things. Anytime you find a place in the Bible where it says, “and they did what was right in their own eyes,” trouble is usually the end result.
What better source could we possibly have, to find out our purpose in life, than to seek counsel from the Author of Life? He is the one who invented our purpose, according to his own will. I am a firm believer, that when we are obedient to the Father, and seek out his will, we wind up on the road that he’s established for us, which will lead directly to fruition of the purpose he has set for us.
But there are dozens of different levels of purposes that we need to establish, in order to get there. All vary concerning degrees of importance, and also in difficulty.
Since I’m me, I’ll take the liberty to use myself as an example to explain what I mean by that.
I firmly believe that the Lord’s will for me (or his purpose), is for me to run this website, and add to it what he places on my heart to add (or for others to add in sections such as Testimonies). All so that it may be used as a witnessing tool and lead folks to Christ Jesus, a help for newer Christians, and a place where people can learn some meat and milk of the Word. At the very least, encourage Brothers and Sisters in the Lord to open their Bibles and feast on the Word of God and discover the treasures of the Lord waiting for them.
That would be the overall purpose. But in order to do that, many sub-purposes need to be fulfilled. Every day I seek counsel from the Lord concerning each post. Sometimes, I need to do research into a subject, in order to see what’s already been written about it. From there, I weigh it out against the Word, and discover whether or not it’s sound counsel.
Since this is a devotional, I’ll hang on that for a moment. The first sub-purpose was to create devotionals of the book of Proverbs from start to finish, regardless of how long it takes. In order to establish that sub-purpose, I need to set additional purposes every day, in order to get a devotional completed and released to this site.
So within this example, we’ve got the main purpose, a sub-purpose, and another sub-purpose after that. But with every sub-purpose fulfilled, that’s another step closer to the fulfillment of the larger.
I believe that life is constructed in such a way, and it must all begin with the goal of reaching the Lord’s established purpose in our lives. As we walk in obedience to him, through the Spirit of the Lord, and through the instruction of his Word, we may find a multitude of sub-purposes that need to be completed.
But upon completion, we can move on to the next item, or take the next step down the road he has prepared for us. But it is very important to get our heads around the advice of a multitude of counselors for a variety of reasons, and weigh the counsel against the Word, and brought to prayer.
The Lord can speak to our hearts directly, or through someone else. We have the Holy Ghost that will let us know what is in tune with him & the Word.

10 That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Some of us are more purpose driven than others. Should we be lazy about seeking out your purpose, shed that disability off of us, so that we may search out and find your purpose for our lives. Should any of us be so purpose driven, that we ignore all that you’ve lined up for us to fulfill along the way, teach us to be more observant, and to do the things required, that will move us down the road you’ve paved for us. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
