Proverbs 17: King James Bible
The Carnal – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter seventeen, Verses 19-21
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. 20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief. 21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses
I named this particular devotional “The Carnal,” because every fault above, is included in our fallen nature package. That fallen nature package is otherwise known as carnality.
The carnal man doesn’t understand the things of the Lord, because the Lord is spirit, and deals with things spiritually. Natural (or carnal) minded folks can’t accept the depths of the Word of the Lord, nor the power of the gospel of Christ Jesus.
To the people that behave in the manners described above from verse 19 to verse 20, the gospel is foolishness. The spiritually discerned things of the Bible are nothing but foolishness in the eyes of people who have given themselves over to the wiles of carnality.
None of this is to say, that Jesus didn’t die for them too, but in order for people that are reveling in their own carnality to come willingly to the cross of Christ, much prayer and some divine intervention is what it may take. As impossible as it may seem for someone to die to self and live for the Lord, it behooves us to always remember; Nothing is impossible with the Father.
What must be recognized, is that there is a spiritual enemy that feasts upon the carnality of man. These demonic beings, influence, motivate, tempt, or torment, people by way of amplifying the carnality of man, with the intention of living out their wicked desires through us.
They can amplify any carnal attachment that one may have to the world, and make it extremely difficult to resist following through with whatever the particular desire is. Carnality is one thing, and we all face the difficulties of resisting the flesh, and living by the Spirit of the Lord.
But demonically influenced carnality breeds nothing but sin. It can start harmless and slow, but despite the innocent beginnings, that piece of carnality that it may be adhering to, can result in the amplification or even the creation, of a variety of iniquities.
There is good reason why we are to put on the mind of Christ, to be equipped with the Whole Armor of God, to be dead to the flesh and alive in Christ Jesus, to allow the Holy Ghost to renew our minds, and have our hearts of stone changed over to a heart of flesh, on and on.
All of these things are for good reason. And as the Lord always sees to it, these things are for our own good. He has given us all the tools necessary through his Word, to conquer carnality, and everything that tries to sink their grubby hands into it.

3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

1 Timothy 6: King James Bible
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Thank you for all that you’ve given us. Surely, you’ve given us everything we need through all of your riches and glory, and have given us all of the spiritual tools we need, in order to wage war against all of the spiritual enemies of the Cross. Help us to gain wisdom and understanding in these things, and prepare our hand to war against every evil unseen foe that comes against your saints. Also Lord, renew us daily, so that carnality remains dead, and that we remain dead to sin, and remain alive in Christ. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
How would you prefer the Lord to see you; as the spiritual person or the carnal person?
