Proverbs 22: King James Bible
Friends with Furious – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty two, Verses 24-25
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Friends with Furious
We’ve discussed the pitfalls of being that angry and furious person mentioned up above quite some time ago. You can go back and check it out if you either missed it or have forgotten about it, titled: “A Short Fuse.”
But the verses above aren’t talking about being that person, but being in league with the person, or simply friends. The Lord warns that it may become a snare to our souls should we learn and adopt their ways.
I can understand this from being on both sides of this coin. I’ve been a man given to anger in the past (mostly), and have had plenty of friends that were the same way.
I recall many times in my youth, getting into trouble that all began with the hot temper of a friend. All kinds of wickedness can be going on anywhere withing a ten foot radius of an angry or furious person.
It’s even worse when you get that person behind the wheel. Ever seen that type of guy, or been stuck in the car with that type of guy? When someone gets in a wreck or in trouble with the law due to their road rage, how much fun is it to be the person who came along riding shotgun?
I give that example, because I’ve been there before. It’s not too much fun, and you can’t help but wish you were anywhere else, but where you’re stuck at the time.
Those kind of “guilty by association” types of issues might tend to be a snare to your reputation, or at least to your own peace of mind, but that’s not exactly what the Father is warning about as it relates to a snare to your soul.
He is concerned about learned behavior, that would contaminate your heart. When you are friends with furious or angry types of people, that behavior and/or heart condition can be catchy. When you observe someone do something in a particular way often enough, you may one day find yourself doing that very same thing.
Also, you wind up acclimated to that type of behavior, and it just doesn’t seem as bad as it used to. When you learn the ways of someone behaving in a manner that is against what the Lord has instructed, you’ve already been caught in that snare.
Anything that’ll snare the soul, is going to take the “frog brought to a boil” approach, rather than offending you into the opposite direction. Pretty sneaky.
The Lord gave us this warning, as well as all of his warnings and instruction, for our own good, and to help us avoid unnecessary and unwanted problems. It’s on us to apply what he’s given us.

John 15: King James Bible
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
Ephesians 4: King James Bible
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4: King James Bible
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Colossians 3: King James Bible
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Thank you yet again for your marvellous Word, and for your instruction as it relates to all things, as well as how to move forward in our walk with you. Help us to not be that angry person, if we are a type given to anger. Soften our hearts and fill them with your love, and your life giving joy, that we bring others up, instead of tempting them with snares. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Have you ever been involved with heavy negative consequences, by virtue of being friends with furious types of people?
