26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Righteous Man Falls
The lack of particulars here invite us to explore different aspects that this verse may pertain to. As we can typically find, it’s useful to look at the physical and also spiritual sides to most of the verses in the Bible.
God is spirit, and we worship him in spirit and in truth, right? Therefore we need to understand that the information that he shares with us is also spiritual, and finds fruition in the physical. There is no exception when we come across this verse talking about a righteous man falling.
The Righteous Fall – Physical
Anytime we find brothers and sisters in the Lord being persecuted, we can certainly relate this verse to the repercussions. When a righteous man falls by the hand of the wicked via persecution, nothing good is going to come of it for those who have taken part. The Lord will repay those who have laid hands on his anointed.
When a righteous man falls down before the wicked, it could be because they were persuaded by some means to take part in something that would cut them off from any longer being righteous with the Father. For instance, what if Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, decided not to create waves and bowed down when the instruments played, instructing all people to worship toward the golden idol Nebuchadnezzar set up?
Even if they did it for the appearance only so they wouldn’t get into any trouble, don’t you think that the Lord would have taken issue with that? I believe that he would have, and all of the works, miracles, and wonders that transpired due to their unwillingness to bow, would never have happened.
This causes me to wonder… How many times have those who are righteous before the Lord, prevented the Lord from committing wonderful acts due to following the crowd? Something to chew on for all of us…
The troubled fountain and the corrupt spring, could be representative of the will of the Lord, or the plans that he has for each of us. What flows without defilement from the Father, gets corrupted by our actions or lack thereof. When a righteous man falls, the waters become bitter.
The spiritual Side
Turning Away from God
Turning away from God is the ultimate way a righteous man falls. This is the goal of every demon walking the face of the earth. That is their job. If there’s a way, they’ll exploit it. The Devil himself can appear as an angel of light, but he can also try to make things look as if the lights aren’t on at all.
Disguising himself to convince people that there is no God and there is no Devil, is his specialty. But when people break out of his trance, come to know the true Lord and Savior, that’s when special attention comes, to try to steal that person away from the Lord.
And he does this the only way he is allowed to, which is through deceit and persuasion. Using all of the lusts of the world at his disposal, he does his utmost to cause Saints to fall away.
(Just to be clear… When I say the Devil, I’m talking about the enemy as a whole, from Lucifer all the way down to whatever demonic lackey is at the bottom of the totem pole. Satan’s agents do all of the legwork.)
When a righteous man falls to temptation and begins a journey against the Lord, that is a victory for the kingdom of darkness. We can see things at work in the Christian community established to take people down that path. Christian yoga, Chrislam, and angel worship, to name a few different avenues.
There is one problem that the enemy has, and that is the longsuffering, patience, forbearance, and love of the Father. Though a righteous man falls seven times, the Lord leaves a space available for the righteous to get back up, turn himself around, and is always waiting for his prodigals to return. If the Lord didn’t make it possible for us to rise up again after such a fall, many of us would be in a heap of trouble right now.

Romans 3: King James Bible
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Romans 6: King James Bible
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Thank you for this verse Lord, and for your manifold insight into it. You are gracious and merciful with us, and thank you for everything that you’ve done, to hinder the enemy from getting ahold of your children. If any of your righteous have fallen, please grant them the strength and the wisdom to turn from their present course, and fall back into the center of your will for their lives. And help us to not be persuaded by the crowd, the world, or by Satan himself, to follow the ways of this world that are against your will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
