Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 12 P.138 – Deceitful Imagination

Proverbs 12: King James Bible

Deceitful Imagination – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twelve, Verses 20-21

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy. 21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Deceitful Imagination

The beginning of the first verse above, brings into remembrance what we can find in the book of Genesis:

Genesis 6: King James Bible

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

And the rest is history, by way of a flood. When you read verse 20 from Proverbs, don’t you see a resemblance to what’s in Gen 6? There are many more reasons that the Lord wiped the slate clean, but he makes sure to tell us (twice), about the imaginations of the heart.

If you think you can’t have an impact on the Father’s day, well, take a look at Genesis 6:6. It grieved him in his heart. Later on in the New Testament, we’re told not to grieve the Spirit. We can indeed grieve the Lord, and we should be careful not to do so.

He loves us, died for us, created us, and yet we’re the ones with our hands out to get more from him. Not making any judgement, I do the same. The least we can do in my opinion, is figure out how not to grieve the Creator of the entire universe. Doesn’t that sound reasonable?

One way that this piece of scripture advises us to avoid that, is to be a counselor of peace. Shouldn’t we me masterful in that arena? After all, we’ve got the Prince of Peace as our head! This is done by following through with our relationship with the Lord, learning his word, and doing it.

When we do these things, it’s amazing how reactions, words, feelings, and our overall surroundings, can change for the better. That doesn’t mean that the old torn up couch is going to turn into a class A leather sofa. But it does mean that the air around you changes for the better, and is tangible to those around us.

We bring peace into situations where there is no peace. Or, we prepare the way for the peace, as we stride around wearing the boots of the preparation of the Gospel of Peace (Boots of Peace). Reject mischief and be just, according to the Word of the Lord. I’ve never met anyone who regretted doing so.

Thank you for your instruction, and the clarity of your Word. We lift you up and praise you for all that you have done for all of us. Help us Father, to avoid doing that which grieves you, and rather, cause for us to please you each and every day. May we all put a smile on your face we ask. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

  1. Good morning Brian,
The question I would ask is; have you ever thought that while we are made in the image & likeness of God, that He also feels the emotions that we feel. Scripture shows us so many emotions that God has. He covers us with protection as a mother hen. (Love & concern). Anger enough to cause the flood. Proud of His son Jesus. (This is my beloved son in whom I am well please.) Grieved enough to weep over a city that did not receive Him, then a week later suffer physical brutality & die on a cross to bring salvation to those who would accept His sacrifice in payment for their sins, then asking His Father to forgive
those who meeted our His death, for they knew not what they were doing. (Love, obedience to the up most & for- giveness. We’ve all known most of these emotions, so it should help us to understand that The Triune God also has been there, done that. If I would remember that more often, perhaps I wouldn’t grieve my God so often & also be more understanding of individuals & their needs. (More loving & forgiving).
    Sincerely, in Christ Jesus,
    Janet Goodwin
