Daily Inspiration from This Verses – Desires and Expectations

The wording in this verse gives us a look into the two different outlooks at play between the righteous and the wicked. A desire and an expectation are two completely different things.

A desire isn’t expected, but is something that closely related to want with a dash of hope. The desire of the righteous, is what they’d like to see happen. Because we’re talking about the righteous, then we can only assume, that their desires would be righteous, and seen as pleasing in the eyes of the Lord.

Should there be any question as to what those kinds of things may be, you can find the answers in the following:

Philippians 4: King James Bible

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

And also:

Ephesians 5: King James Bible

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

For the righteous, all of the above are desired, both in one’s life and toward the lives of others. This is what parts us from the rest of the world, because of how all of the above is defined by the definitions given to us by the Word of God. Not by a selfish worldly standard.

I’ve never heard anyone who has acknowledged that they are wicked, and still think that they’ve got anything good heading their way. And I have heard plenty of people in the past, bragging about how wicked they were. Similarly to a toughness type of status in their mind. Yeah I know… It sounds kind of weird, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who knows these types of people.

The tragedy is, that they truly do expect wrath, and they know full well that it’s coming. One may think that this might bring them to Christ, but the majority of the time, they don’t see, because they’ve become blinded to the truth.

Instead of taking the way out that the Lord has provided, they live all the more wickedly, trying to cram in as much of what they consider as “life” or “fun” as they can, before they come before the Lord. It truly is tragic. They will receive their expectations, just as anyone else, who rejects the Son of the Most High God.

1 Corinthians 1: King James Bible

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5: King James Bible

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2 Peter 3: King James Bible

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you again for your Word, and for the sacrifice that you made 2,000 years ago on the cross. Lead is Lord, into all truth, and keep us free from all of the wiles of wickedness. We also pray for those who are wicked right now, but are foreseen by you to one day be yours. Remove all unseen influences from the lives of these people, and remove the blinders that have been placed before their eyes, that they may see clearly and call upon Christ Jesus for salvation. These things we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

  1. Greetings Brian…spot on, as ususal. A true follower of Christ only has expectations of pleasing Him; pleasing the Father. Wickedness is the furthest thing from our minds. But you have brought up a valid point, in that these wicked hedonists a brazenly proclaiming their lawlessness. They wallow in it, like a pig in slop. This bizare behavior is hard to fathom, but there they are. Yes, if the Holy Spirit could just puncture their hard shell, and show them their error, then they could repent and turn to the Lord. We pray this, Amen. P.S. The sound system continues to blair the Holy Word. The transgressers hate it, but are poweless to stop it (big smile). Be well brother.

    • Hi there George,
Extremely well said. Amen. Your comment brought to my remembrance what Paul wrote to the Romans:
      Romans 1: King James Bible
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Also, awesome to hear you’re blasting the airwaves with the Word of the Lord! It makes me wonder how the prince of the power of the air, likes it? 🙂 Probably not at all, and that’s just fine!

      God bless you Brother!
      In Christ,
      Brian
