Different Gospels II

Different Gospels II

December 5, 2016March 18, 2016 by Brian Reynolds

Beware False DoctrineDifferent Gospels part II is running down the same vein as part one. This was originally going to be included in the first, but figured that the post was getting long enough, and it would be better to branch it off into another post. This one is about the anti-biblical doctrine that attempts to cancel out the Apostle Paul’s writings from the New Testament.

As this has been around for awhile, it’s received new breath as of late. Just like the last post concerning different Gospels, I’m not going to name names or anything like that. There is one judge, and I’m not him. So the souls behind such things will answer to God, I’m just pointing these things out for those who may not be as strong in the Word as perhaps they should be.

One of the many tactics of the enemy is to do all to either take away or discredit the complete Word of God. My belief is that the Father has kept watch over his Word and preserved it by way of the Bible (KJV for me). I touched on why that is in the last post about this. To say that there are large portions of the Bible that shouldn’t be there, in one way or the other cancels out the whole. Every verse has been intricately placed word by word with a deliberate purpose (sometimes several purposes), and to change a very small thing effects the whole.

The Anti-Paul DoctrineAnti-Paul Doctrine

This one was presented to me several times over the past couple of weeks. To put it simply, this doctrine claims that the epistles of Paul are wrong, and should be either avoided or not taken to be as part of the cannon. This runs in the vein that you are not saved by grace through faith (How could we be? Don’t we learn that from Paul’s writings?), but by your works, depending on whether or not you obey the commandments of Christ which have been hidden in the Old Testament.

So to be saved, we’ve got to (somehow) earn it. This was presented to me, as a “secret knowledge” kind of thing. That for thousands of years people have gotten it wrong, and the commandments are not found in the New Testament at all, but are in the Old here and there. I’ve got a few things to say about this if I may.

Deleting the New TestamentDeleting the New Testament

If we are to discredit the Apostle Paul, then we’d need to discredit all of the New Testament, including all of the four gospels, and just end the Bible at Malachi. Let me clumsily show you how I get there using the notion that Paul was false.

Say we wipe out the entire body of the Apostle Paul’s word from the New Testament. What are we to make of the integrity of the other apostles that were still around during his ministry? Here is something that the Apostle Peter had to say about Paul and his writings.

2 Peter 3:

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (forcibly pull from a person’s grasp), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

So Peter right in our face, associates the writings of Paul with actual scripture. If we decide to continue with this anti-Paul doctrine, we’ll have to make room for some anti-Peter doctrine as well, since he’s obviously been duped by Paul.We can see that if the Apostles Paul was as leaven, he’s leavened the lump.

So let’s see how this starts wiping away other books of the Bible. So to discount Paul’s writings because he was false, we’d need to remove Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians,Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, and most likely Hebrews. But it can’t end there.

Because of what Peter had to say, we’d need to also remove Peter’s work being 1 & 2nd Peter. But it doesn’t stop there! What about the Gospel of Mark? This gospel is said to have been given by the Apostle Peter (either that or Peter had much to contribute to it). So goodbye gospel of Mark.

Also, Dr. Luke was a traveling companion of Paul’s, and was tightly associated in Paul’s ministry.

Colossians 4:

14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

2 Timothy 4:

11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

With such an association and lean toward Paul (particularly in the Book of Luke part 2, which we call the book of Acts), we would have to remove the Book of Luke, and Acts along with it.

SO what about James, Matthew, and John? Were they not also in league with Paul? Were they not also of the same apostles and elders in the Church at Jerusalem during Paul’s ministry? Acts chapter 15 says so. Why was there no outcry of Paul’s falsehoods in the congregation of the apostles and elders?

Evidently any of the surviving apostles of the original 12 have had the wool pulled over their eyes too. What was wrong with Jesus; To choose such a type of people who would so easily be deceived to further and spread his gospel to all nations? Were they all as deceived as Peter?

John the apostle had traveled with the apostle Paul in Acts chapter 13:

5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.

So what must we decide about John? Being traveling companions, we’re not talking about a car ride, but having to spend good deals of time together in their travels. There’s no mentioning about doctrinal issues between them. Obviously, We’re going to have to remove the Book of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and the Book of Revelation.

James and Matthew, being members of the apostles and elders that were approving the acts and gospel of the apostle Paul, will need to go as well, along with their work. So we must delete the Book of Matthew, and also the book of James.

So what’s left? On my scorecard, it looks like the New Testament has been reduced down to the book of Jude. Wasn’t Jude the brother of James? Well, that settles that. Jude should not be considered cannon as well due to where he most likely received his education about Jesus by, his brother.

So goodbye New Testament, hello Laws of Moses! If we were to cross out the New Testament, well, just who is this Jesus guy anyways? Never heard of him.

By Whose SpiritBy Whose Spirit

By whose Spirit were the Apostles moving in? Was it not the Spirit of God? Would they have had any issue pointing out false or misguided doctrine? They had to do it all the time. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, dwelt among and within the Apostles. And it was this same Spirit of the Living God, that dwelt with and within the Apostle Paul.

As I clumsily displayed, to remove the Apostle Paul from the pages of the Bible, is to (in the end) remove the New Testament in it’s entirety. I believe without a shadow of a doubt, that the Creator of all the universe, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the One who Is, who Was, and Is to come, the First and the Last, the great I AM, the Author of Life, the Author and Finisher of our faith, the Way, Truth, and the Life, the One who declares the end from the beginning, is perfectly capable of keeping his Word in order as he said he would for all eternity.

Conclusion

Don’t try to add to or take away from the Word of God. Instead, why not study the Word as it is, and keep the intention to learn as much as possible, prayerfully and truthfully. The Holy Bible is the measuring stick that the Lord has made sure was placed into our hand in one way or the other. To check “new” revelations against, “different” doctrines and gospels, words of knowledge, etc..

Different Gospels IIIf anything runs crosswise of the Word of God, than leave it alone; drop it like a bad habit because one degree of separation may seem small at first, but as you go on the gap between where you are vs where you should be grows greater and greater. Search through the scriptures to double check everything. Including anything at all that you will find on this website!

Acts 17:

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

So I leave you with this:

Matthew 7:

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

2 Peter 2

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2 Corinthians 11:

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Galatians 2:

4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

We need to be well versed in the Word of God in every area to avoid being caught up in a lie, or to be found wounded in a pitfall. Thank you for reading this post and God bless you! Stay in the Word and do not fall for Different Gospels!

Correct except on thing: it was John the Baptist being spoken of in Acts 13. Please read those verses here — Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
Act 13:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
Act 13:25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

      Hi Norm,
Thank you for checking out and reading the post! Concerning what you said, you are correct about the verses that you presented. Paul was indeed talking about John the Baptist in Acts 13: 24+25. However the verses that I had in mind had preceded that sermon and said the following:
      Acts 13:
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister. (This is where they met up with John, or at least is the first place that John was mentioned with them.)
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. (Having described different destinations through their journey, this is where they parted company.)

Because these two different scenarios are both nestled in chapter 13, I should have had the forethought to include the two verses I just quoted. I’m going to add them now to avoid future confusion. Thank you for getting my eyes on it and looking closely into the post! God bless you richly in the name of Jesus!
