Faithful Witness – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter fourteen, Verse 5
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Faithful Witness
We’ve touched upon what it is to bear false witness in previous devotionals. There are two major reasons anyone would choose to bear false witness. To either save their own skin, or to fry someone else’s. These vary to any degree, but if you boil it down, it’s either one or the other.
Here, I’d like to concentrate on what it is to be a faithful witness. I’m sure the knee jerk reaction when considering what this means to us, would be to be honest. Right? Honesty is certainly included in being a faithful witness, but there’s much more to it than that.
1. strict or thorough in the performance of duty: a faithful worker.
2. true to one’s word, promises, vows, etc.
3. steady in allegiance or affection; loyal; constant: faithful friends.
4. reliable, trusted, or believed.
5. adhering or true to fact, a standard, or an original; accurate: a faithful account; a faithful copy.

When we actually take a look at the definition of the word “faithful,” it gives us a bit more insight as to what being a faithful witness entails. As I said, there’s more to it than simple honesty.
Are we strict or thorough, as it relates to being a witness? Do we even see being faithful as a duty? Faithful to one’s spouse or family is one thing, but how about being that way as a witness in every way?
Are we reliable, or can we be trusted? Do we adhere to what’s right, and stick to it despite the consequences, or waver depending on the situation? Some extremely important questions that we should all ask ourselves, and examine whether or not we’ve been faithful by definition.
The Lord has given us all a great commission. We are to be a witness to all the world. He isn’t looking for lukewarm, fair weather believers. He’s looking for people who are willing to bear a faithful witness be it by word and/or deed, in his service and for his glory.
Bear in mind, that this word “faithful” is used in the one sentence that we’re all going to want to hear from the Father, should we go by way of the grave. Six simple words which are, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

We aim t please you and to give you joy. Help us to be faithful servants in the face of every circumstance. Help us if we’re found wanting in this department, and fill us with whatever it takes, to be what you would consider to be faithful witnesses. May your Spirit guide us in every way, to keep us from err, and guide us down the path that you have established. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
