Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 20 P. 293 – Fake News

Proverbs 20: King James Bible

Fake News – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty, Verse 23

23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; and a false balance is not good.

Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Fake News

Aside from literal cheating, the verse above brought to mind the problem these days, suffering fake news. A false balance is not good no matter what the circumstances, be it physical or what we take in for information.

And when we begin to make decisions based on fake news, or imbalanced information that boasts to be balanced, well, the end result might not be what is expected. When I say fake news, I’m using it as a broad brush, covering everything from literal “fake news” that the main stream media thinks they can force down our throats, to simple false information on a label, or anyone lying in order to get you to do or purchase something.

The possibilities are endless in the information age, the problem is, what information are we basing our decisions on? Are we too busy about other things to find out whether something is true or not? Is it right to take things as we’re told to take them?

If you’ve answered yes to either of those questions, then there is a great chance that you are being deceived about something somewhere, and might need to rethink how you choose to process information. On thing that I’ve posted several times in various places on the website, is that my goal is to provoke you to get into the Word of God, and to make discoveries for yourselves. Never take anything I say as doctrine, but search through the scriptures, and see whether or not anything I have to say is so.

That is rule #1 to keep from being deceived, and landing yourself in some cult or unbiblical Christian offshoot. When someone goes crosswise the Word of God, then it is a good possibility, they are leading someone astray. This can be either by ignorance or on purpose.

However, most of us know this and take it very seriously. But are we as careful about other things that we take in as information that forms and develops our opinions or paradigms? When we hear something, say in the news, do we take it and allow it to shape an opinion, or do we go to the source to see if we’re even being told the truth in it’s proper context?

I don’t believe for a second that it is a coincidence, that the world keeps us too busy to search out the truth for most things. But if you do one day, decide to do some actual digging into the garbage that we’re being fed by “reputable” sources of information, you’ll either be amazed, angered, or deeply troubled.

Don’t be surprised by this, because it is a sure thing. If the Lord is willing to use words like abomination, when describing his thoughts on false balances and diverse weights, it’s like clockwork for the world to be established to be filled with either of these things.

This world is fallen and strives against all that the Lord finds good, and revels in all of the things that the Lord finds to be abominations. Such are these last days in which we live. Take nothing you hear for granted, but take the time to search things out if possible, to avoid being deceived by any means.
