Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Flourish
It really doesn’t matter what it is, be it riches, fun, joy, well being, etc.. There are two different versions of all of them.
There is one version of all of it, that this world in which we live has to offer. But there is another version of each, that the Father has to offer.
What the world has to offer lasts only as long as our lifetime permits. What the Father has to offer is eternal. This life that we’re living, though it seems like a long time, is only a blip on the radar of eternity. That being the case, why are we so willing to appease the flesh now, and run the risk of trading our inheritance for instant yet futile gratification?
While writing that, I’m reminded of the deal struck between Jacob and Esau. The quick version is, Esau traded his inheritance for a meal. Sounds stupid doesn’t it? Well, it is! But when we’re in the flesh, and the flesh is screaming for attention, it’s difficult to squelch without the Spirit of the Living God to grant your spirit authority over it.
I said all of that, because the verse above gives us a distinction between a fleshly desire and a spiritual condition. It’s a condition, because it hinges on the hope of the Father fulfilling his end of his promises, should we meet the condition of being righteous in his eyes (not our own eyes, but his eyes).
The righteous know full well, that the Lord is in control, and to trust in him, and in nothing else. But those who trust in riches are placing their trust in something that is as fleeting as the wind. And even still, should someone be born and die rich, their earthly riches hang back with the corpse after death.
But should we place our trust in the Lord, we reap the benefits while we’re here, and even better, for all of eternity! Here, gold is coveted. Where the Father has prepared a place for us, gold is otherwise known as pavement. There are so many things that the Lord has prepared for us, that if you don’d get excited even thinking about it, then there’s something wrong!

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Thank you for your Word, and for securing our future with you. Thank you also, that you have prepared a place for us in your Kingdom, and that you’ve filled them with more than we can even ask or think! Please help us while we’re here, to crucify the flesh and it’s desires to veer us off of the course that you’ve placed us on. Should the riches and cares of this world be trying to cause us to misplace our trust, bring it to our attention, and help us to escape these temptations. In the gloriuos name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
