Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 16 P. 223 – Found in the Way

Proverbs 16: King James Bible

Found in the Way – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter sixteen, Verses 31-33

31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. 32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. 33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Found in the Way

In verse 31, a hoary head stands for a graying or whitening head of hair. Talk about a conditional verse, that’s an enormous two letter word separating the two thoughts going on in that verse.

The word “if” is the introduction, as to how a hoary head isn’t from an enormous amount of stress, or any other excuse someone may use to explain all of their grays. It is a crown of glory if it’s found in the way of righteousness. There’s that way again…

There is one way of righteousness, all other ways are ways of wickedness. At least, that’s their route. So, should we find ourselves reaching an age that whitens the hairdo, perhaps we should stop and consider what road we’ve traveled down that brought us to this stage of our lives.

This verse should also open up our expectations, that the Lord has placed a crown of glory in the way that he has prepared for us. Well, that is if we should decide to continue down that road. The thing is, it’s up to us.

Verse 33 says it well, that the lot is cast into the lap. Whose lap is this referring to? It is talking about our lap. When we see that the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord, it doesn’t mean that he takes the lot and throws it out.

What it means, is that he makes the arrangement. And yes, he certainly has made the ultimate arrangement, and that arrangement in through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus himself. He has arranged the way we should go, but every beginning of every way that there is for each of us, begins at the cross.

Without that first step, you’re already lost and wandering about, taking any road that anyone sets before you, none of which results in anything but spiritual death and stagnation. But even for us who have taken that ultimate first step, by proclaiming Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have endless intersections that come up every ten feet on the way that the Lord has prepared for us.

He intends for us to walk straight on, not looking from left to right, but instead keeping our eyes on the prize. The world and it’s prince, Satan and all of his cohorts, do all that they can to give us faulty directions, so that we wind up taking a detour, or guide us to take a turn down a lane that ends in destruction.

It is all on us, to make sure we stay in the way that the Lord has prepared for us, and one day find that crown that he has left for us, put it on, and wear it in honor of the Father. Where we can look back, and thank God Almighty, for guiding our steps through this mess of a world, and leading us by his Spirit, unto the prize!

Matthew 7: King James Bible

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

1 Corinthians 9: King James Bible

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Hebrews 12: King James Bible

12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Prayer

Father,

You have shown us so much of your will, and your heart throughout these verses in Proverbs, and we thank you for the privileged of learning from you! Guide our feet Lord, and lead us by your Spirit, so that we should be found in the way of righteousness, rather than to be found lost and struggling to get back on the right track. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

Have you recognized any treasure that the Lord has placed, to be found in the way you should go?

  1. When I had been a Christian for about ten years, I had a dream that I was on a I- System Hwy going along a straight path, which in the dream was narrow. There were turn offs every so often to other places. I turned off two different ones, but realized I had taken a wrong turn & got back onto the hwy. There were times I started to slip off onto the slippery incline & struggled to get back on the road, which I did. I saw bus loads of people going off the hwy to towns. I shouted at them to get back on the hwy, but they didn’t listen.

I feel this was a dream from The Lord & there were many lessons for me to learn. Some were; It isn’t easy being a Christian & especially a new one. There is always that first trip down from the mountain of joy to face life of being in the world, but not of the world. My unrighteous habits needed to be delt with, some still do, but now I know how to deal with them. I lost friends because of my new friend Jesus & His influence on me helped me accept that. Slipping off the side of the hwy showed me that unforgivenness hampered my walk on the straight & narrow path. Gossip, anger, lies, etc caused me to be on the slippery slope. I still slip, but with years of reading The WORD & God’s grace I have the tools to prevent disaster. Praise be to our GOD & savior Jesus. His mercy endures forever.

    • Hi Janet,
Thank you for sharing this dream! It certainly has a prophetic tone, and is quite clear that the Lord was trying to get something across to you. Perhaps he was giving you a heads up about something that was on the horizon at the time? But the message is a life long lesson indeed!

Thanks again for this wonderful testimony of the Father lending some direction into your life! What a blessing.
May the Father bless you and all of yours abundantly in the name of Jesus!
      In Christ,
      Brian
