From Death to Life – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter ten, Verses 2-3

2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. 3 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses

According to the first verse above, there’s a large difference between treasures of wickedness and righteousness. One delivers you from death, the other won’t. Considering death find’s us all, it should be clear that what’s being referred to is the second death, or otherwise, rejection from the Lord once we’re shed out of the flesh.

This should give us the groundwork for the context intended for this proverb. Without discovering the context intended for these verses, it seems that what Solomon’s saying here is a bit off.

What I mean is, we see wicked people, who have wrongfully raked in riches, or have done so through sinful means, on the surface it looks like they’re doing pretty well for themselves. Let’s be honest, we can turn on the television, and witness people who are benefiting from treasures of wickedness.

Unfortunately for the wicked, this is all destined to end for them. For some of them, it’s at the moment of death. At that moment, these folks that have so much which has been collected wickedly, will learn that they are blind, naked, and have nothing.

To back up the fact that the context is meant to be from death forward, look at the very next verse. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish.

Good Godly people die every day all around the world for every reason out there. We’re not immune to bad things that come and take our lives. It’s appointed all men once to die, then the resurrection. When that day comes for we who are the Lord’s, the Lord says here, the Lord will not suffer our souls to famish. We’re in the good hands of a loving Father.

However, for the wicked, at that moment of a profound reality check which we so conveniently call death, the substance of the wicked will be literally cast off. They’ll have no works available to be tried by the fire, and most painfully, will not be protected under the Blood of the Lamb (assuming that they never called upon the name of the Lord to be saved).

The entire history of the world is a flint spark compared to the burning sun of eternity. Doesn’t it only make sense, to build up what we’ll be rewarded with once we reach the end of the race, rather than the corrosive, moth ridden, cursed materials of this cursed planet?

Philippians 3: King James Bible

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Matthew 6: King James Bible

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Jesus said that he’s preparing a place for us with you, and you’ve said that eye hasn’t seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into our hearts, the things which you’ve prepared for we who love you. You know full well what you’ve said, and need not to be reminded, but we need to be reminded every day Father. Install this into our hearts, so that when diverse issues arise, or things happen outside of our control, we can remember the vanity which is this life, and treasure your coming all the more, or to treasure our homecoming all the more should you tarry. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

What seems worse to you; going from life to death, or from death to life?
