Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 28 P. 446 – Get Rich Quick

Proverbs 28: King James Bible

Get Rich Quick – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty eight, Verses 19-22

19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. 20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress. 22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Get Rich Quick

I kept the verses above together as they all go hand in hand, and wanted to keep the context right. It’s important to present the full picture that the Lord has painted for us here. That said, there’s quite a bit to take in, but one common theme.

Get rich quick is the title of this page, and for a good reason. That is the phrase that screamed out at me after reading the verses above collectively.

There is no better place to get a hook in the jaw than the internet. Without even trying you can get inundated by get rich quick schemes. I know from personal experience, that without a healthy suspicion of every single opportunity out there, you can get taken for a ride.

Typically, those who wind up falling for a get rich quick scam are those who don’t have the money to lose in the first place. They give what little they already have due to the stirred up promise of vanity that is paraded before them on these sites.

In order to appeal to someone to buy into a scam, you have to be as convincing as possible about how wealthy and well off you have become, since you started “name the scam here.” This is done with repetitive testimonies, pictures or videos of fancy cars, boats, beautiful homes, and strolling down a beach clothed by sunset and rolling waves, gently crashing upon the shore, and wads of cash everywhere.

Anyone who wants to live a lavished life of vanity must first be shown how pampered your life can be if you’d only heed their advice, and give them your money. They show you a person that you could become a respecter of, wanting to have a life that he is portraying.

Once convinced, all of what the Lord warns about above will come soon enough. I’ve seen so many of these types of scams that fortunately, I can see them coming from a mile away. There have been times in the past where I was flat broke, and sought an income online. Being broke is probably what kept me from falling for scams that I couldn’t afford.

Having a variety of oddball physical ailments prevented me from being able to hold down a steady job (still an issue unfortunately), after having a great career for about twenty years. A large family made it impossible to save for anything, so I was pressed pretty hard financially while looking for something that I could do from home. I wasn’t looking for a lavished lifestyle, but just wanted to pay things that needed to be paid, and grab something to eat once in awhile.

You always hear about people doing well after finding something that they can do online. And it’s true. There are a great deal of things and different ways out there that are legitimate. But what you need to go through in order to find them is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Many people dive in and lose a great deal of money by a minefield scams that played off of their fallen nature. Vanity.

Fortunately for me, I was flat broke during this time. I genuinely didn’t have the money to spare to get involved in whatever I found that interested me. And I praise the Lord for that! I didn’t know then, the things I know now, nor did I understand some key methods to avoid scams. There were some that I was interested in, and later found that they were in trouble for scamming people out of their money, just to make them more money. Pyramid schemes and such with no real thing to offer.

Quick tip: If you are not informed about exactly what it is a company has to offer within the first few paragraphs, but instead all you keep reading about is how good you can have it; or if you are not told what it is you either need to do, or will be doing, in the first couple of minutes of a video, move on and don’t look back.

My apologies for the excursion. I suppose that this is more of a testimony or a public service announcement, but I guess I said all of that to say the following.

The Lord never tells us to shoot for the stars, or to forsake what he’s given for the opportunity of getting rich quick. If you’re standing on a field that needs to be plowed, plow it. Doing so will cause for you to gather and reap the benefits of the work.

A man faithful toward what it is he needs to do will be rewarded for doing it, in respect to whatever it might be. Nothing good will ever come by way of setting our sights on that which we can’t possibly reach, or respecting people that have much yet wouldn’t have a problem selling you out for a loaf of bread.

Leave the impossible to the Father, that’s where he comes in. It is up to us to do that which we are able, and to be diligent and wise about it. Placing all of our hopes on the Father, rather than chasing vanity through what others have. That kind of covetous behavior will lead you to places you weren’t meant to go, and to do things that you never expected you’d be willing to do.

There are many celebrities out there that would confirm this to be true by way of the pills they are prescribed in order to deal with the torment of knowing the things that they had to do to get to where they are now. When you can’t live with yourself because of the things you’ve done for the sake of wealth, how is that a life at all? God’s way is always better, hands down!

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for always being there with sound advice and wisdom pertaining to all areas of our lives. Help us all who are in need to avoid the pitfalls and traps that have been established by the wicked, who take pleasure in unjust gain. Strengthen us to do that which you’ve placed before us, and help us to remember that it is by your hand that we are elevated, not by our own or anyone else’s. Thank you for being you Lord, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Amen
