Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Harvest in Season
The Lord is big on timeliness, don’t you think? In the previous devotional, we spoke about diligence, and the benefits of being so. Here, we’re talking about a blend of diligence and timeliness.
Being diligent about getting something done in its season. King Solomon touched on this later on in the book of Ecclesiastes. He wrote the following:
Ecclesiastes 3: King James Bible
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
There isn’t a time appointed to complete just a handful of things, but for everything. The verse above says a time for every purpose and for every work. Not just some things, or everything everyone else does.
The wise son above, gathered the harvest just when he was supposed to. He didn’t procrastinate, thinking that he’ll get to it eventually.
As a sidebar, notice that he didn’t wait around for someone else to take care of it. He is the one that did the gathering. Because of that, he’d be deemed diligent.
He gathered in the right season. Because the season was right, he’d be deemed wise. So, he’s diligent for doing, and wise for when he did it.
In comes the shameful son. He slept through harvest. Why is this shameful? I suppose, that we’d need to think about what happens when you don’t bring in a harvest when you’re supposed to.
If this person has a family, then they’ll be suffering come time when they’ll need the proceeds of the harvest. Also, anything that is left out in the fields will go to waste.
Which causes me to give thought to all of the times in the past, where the Lord had made sure to cause my proverbial fields to be full, and ready for the harvest. I shudder to think about what my personal success rate would be, or what percentage of the time I’d gather when I was supposed to. How about yourself?

2 Timothy 4: King James Bible
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
Give us the wherewithal to do all things that you’ve set before us in due season. When the harvest is ripe, and the time is right, give us an unction in the spirit Lord, no matter what it may be about; the great things and the mundane things, and all in between. Help us to be like the wise son, and not like the shameful son, so that we would better represent you as your ambassadors here on the earth, till your return. In the name of the Lord Jesus we pray.
Have you ever noticed, how easy it is to sleep through harvest, instead of reaping the harvest in season?
