Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 8 P.82 – Holy Spirit of God

Proverbs 8: King James Bible

Holy Spirit of God – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter eight, Verses 27-31

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses

In the resume above, given to us by the Holy Ghost, we are given a wonderful point of view of creation. When the Lord did this and that, there I was with him. As I mentioned in the last devotional, these descriptions given to us, are in a way an “in your face” method of telling us that we don’t really have a clue about anything compared to him.

Another thing that I touched on in a previous devotional, is that many folks teach that this is Christ Jesus talking in this chapter, instead of the Holy Ghost. But in one of the verses above, should we dare to take the text literally, we’ve been given quite a clue in verse 30, giving us direction as to who’s talking.

“I was there by him, as one brought up with him.” He was brought up WITH him. That one word tells the tale. If it said I was brought up BY him, well, yes, that would turn all this into Christ Jesus talking.

I wasn’t brought up with my parents, but was brought up by them. Because of the way this is worded, the only way it makes sense, is that our narrator here in this section of this chapter is the Holy Ghost himself.

I’d also like to make an assumption, that our idea of being brought up, vs. the Lord God Almighty and the Holy Ghost being brought up, are likely two completely different things. I believe that’s why the word AS is used, to use the likeness. As one brought up with him, is different than just simply being brought up. I just wanted to point that out.

The Lord has no beginning, nor will he ever have an end. He inhabits eternity, which is something that is completely alien to us. So, I don’t think that the Holy Ghost is trying to tell us that he was there when the Father lost his baby teeth. I think that he’s driving the point home, that being the Spirit of the Living God, he’s been with him for a long, long time.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for the things that you’ve hidden in your Word for us to search out. Thank you for all of the wisdom and knowledge you’ve made available to us who love you and cleave to you. May we always stay mindful of your presence, your power, your grace, and your Holy Spirit. In the name of Christ Jesus the Lord we pray.

Amen

Ever stop to think about all of the garbage that the Holy Spirit of God tolerates on a daily basis?
