Proverbs 25: King James Bible
Honor of Kings – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty five, Verses 1-2
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out. 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Honor of Kings
There are two things going on in verse 2. First we have the Lord concealing things, second we’ve got kings searching for things. Funny thing about this, is that it is impossible to reverse.
Nobody can conceal anything from the Lord, and the Lord never has to search anything out that he doesn’t already know. But isn’t it amazing that people somehow tend to think that if they do something while nobody’s looking, that nobody’s looking?
There is no such thing as nobody looking, as the Lord sees all, knows all, and for we who are in Christ, has promised to never leave us or forsake us. Yes, that includes when we believe that we’re alone.
It is the honor of kings to search out the things that the Lord has hidden. If the Lord has concealed something, he already has someone in mind to find it. Let’s make something clear for a moment…
This verse isn’t speaking to under 1% of those who have ever lived, who happened to be (or become) kings. We as followers and born again believers of Christ Jesus, have been made kings and priests under his rule. If there’s any confusion about that, please see the scriptures below from the book of Revelation.
It is truly our honor, to be able to search out the things that the Lord himself has hidden from the world. And even if we take what we find, and scream it from the housetops, the world will still have no understanding of it.
The world itself can’t receive the things of the Spirit, because it is carnal by nature. The preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who perish, that we know. But this isn’t limited to the preaching of the cross.
Direction and instruction that the Lord gives us through his Word, is often left misunderstood when not directly led by the Spirit of the Lord to grant us insight, context, knowledge, or understanding. Anyone can read it, but not everyone can feast off of it, and find treasures hidden by the Father.
That’s what makes the Word of the Lord so exciting for us as we bear this in mind. The honor of kings await us in the Word, as we search out what the Lord would have added to us, and written upon our hearts.
When the Holy Ghost opens your eyes to something special in his Word that you’ve either not noticed, jumps out at you, or answers a question you’ve been gnawing on, stop right there and read it again prayerfully.
Your spirit will rejoice within you as you make the trek through the knowledge of the Lord. I can tell you one thing, that this is something that must be experienced, rather than described. But oh, what a good feeling it is to be led by the Lord!

Thank you for all of the exciting things that you’ve concealed for us through your Word. As we search through it, lead us by your Spirit to find the treasures, as you’d will for us to find them. Open the eyes of our understanding, and bring us near to your glory, as we partake in the honor of kings, according to your Word. All that we may serve you better, and praise your mighty name. In teh name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
Have you partaken or been a beneficiary of the honor of kings?
