Daily Inspiration from These Verses – How to Find Good
Two words to remember here are to “get” then to “keep,” these things that have been made available to us by the Lord. Get wisdom and keep understanding. These are the simple instructions that we’ve been given, explaining how to find good.
We can find bad all day long, can’t we? That’s all too easy. Bad things are never in short supply, and anyone can find them, including the foolish and the wise.
So, how does getting wisdom and keeping understanding lead us to find good? Well, to answer that question, we need to establish who’s wisdom, and understanding of what.
This is a topic that we’ve covered many times through these devotionals, and if you’ve been keeping up with them, you’d most likely remember the answers to that. But if you don’t know…
Whenever we read in the Bible (particularly Proverbs) about wisdom, it is the wisdom of the Lord. The wisdom of man is made sport of by the Father in many passages throughout the Bible. So there’s no question, we’re talking about the wisdom made available to us by the Lord, and through his Word.
When we read about having a general understanding, this is referring to a working knowledge of the Word of the Lord, broadened and written upon the tablets of our hearts by the Holy Ghost. Understanding of the reasoning behind why the Lord did this or that, or why he wants things to be certain ways.
A working knowledge as to why there are things he wants us to do, and knowing the reasoning behind why he doesn’t want us to do, or partake in certain things. The majority of the do’s and don’t of the Father, is most often as simple as understanding to play in the yard, not in the street.
And for the more complex things that the Lord would have us understand, he gives us his Holy Ghost. Opening up our understanding to spiritual things that are only spiritually discerned, and seem as nonsense to the flesh.
All of the wisdom of the Lord that has been made available to us, is for our own good, and not our hurt. When we search after it as treasure, our souls profit from it, as well as our spirits being well fed through the Word of the Lord.
Wisdom of the Lord, and understanding of Holy Ghost, are both gifts from the Father to us who love him. We need only to ask him for it.
However, that doesn’t take any of us off the hook. The Lord can give us all of his greatest gifts, and fill us all so full of wisdom and understanding, that people can come from far and wide to hear it from you. But it is a subject to being wasted, misused, or ignored, if someone is bet on going their own way, and doing their own thing.
There are many people out there that are wise, yet don’t use wisdom in their lives. The flesh is a nasty character, that is always on the ready to depart from the wisdom of the Lord. The reality is, wisdom and understanding does not force anyone to be obedient to the Father.
For the ultimate case in point, take a look at the ladder years of King Solomon.
