Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 7 P.62 – In the Twilight

Proverbs 7: King James Bible

In the Twilight – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter seven, Verses 6-10

6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, 7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, 9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: 10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – In the Twilight

Since the physical sense of the rest of this chapter is straight forward, we’ll be concentrating on the spiritual sense from here onward. In so doing, we get a glimpse of how the Lord looks down and witnesses the things that people do.

When we come across a story type of lesson as we have here in chapter seven, it helps us to see things from whatever perspective that we can. Because of how these verses are laid out, it’s not a stretch to put ourselves in the Lord’s shoes, as he witnesses what’s going on.

There are some things to take not of in these verses about the narrator:

  • He could discern a man void of understanding among the simple ones.
  • In the black and dark of night; in the twilight, he could see what was happening.
  • He watched this man that lacks understanding find his way to the harlot’s house.

Looking at these verses from a spiritual sense, we can see a clear picture of the Lord watching his children, who are called by his name. We can see him watching some seeking out pleasure under the cover of night, or “in the twilight.” When someone is out to go do a thing that they wouldn’t do in broad daylight, is a good assumption that they know they are up to something wrong, but wait till dark to not be caught.

Sneaking around in the twilight is a great representation of how some of us Christians tend to live. What I mean is, you’ll be a saint around saints, but a heathen around heathens. Or maybe partake in a form of deeply hidden hypocrisy. The Father sees it all right before his eyes.

We don’t serve a part time God. He’s full time, with no breaks, and holds no bones about working overtime. But are we full time saints? Do we live the way we should when we don’t think anyone’s looking? Do we check the Lord at the door when we’re among certain company?

No matter what we think we do to cover our tracks, nor how dark and late the hour may be, Christians get caught. We’ll either have to deal with the ramifications of our actions here, or we’ll be explaining our actions at the throne-room of the Father.

This is one of many great reasons that the Lord is interested in our hearts. Our heart condition will determine what we’d be willing to do and not do. If there’s a piece of your heart that isn’t quite right, the Lord will let you know, and a steady diet of Christ, the Holy Ghost, the Word of God, and prayer, is the best medicine to remedy that for you.

That harlot (the world) is out to entice and to consume the children of God, and is waiting for you to simply get into eye-shot. Be well equipped with discernment and understanding. God’s watching!

You are all knowing, all seeing, and ever present. There are none like you, nor are there any who can do the things that you can do. Please forgive us when we try to do something that you’d hate, under the cover of night, hoping that you won’t take note of it. Work on us Father, to cause for us to be switched on all the time for you, as you are for us. May you be glorified and magnified, and may you cause for us to be better vessels in your service and more faithful children. In the name of the Lord Jesus we pray.

Ever notice how much safer we feel doing unsavory things in the twilight, as if nobody would find us out?
