Proverbs 29: King James Bible
Increased Transgressions – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty nine, Verse 15-17
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. 16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. 17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Increased Transgressions
For this devotional, I thought that it would be best to lump these three verses together. In so doing, we get a picture painted as to what goes on for transgressions to increase.
Why is that important? Because we are dealing with this happening right now!
Let’s begin with verse 15. If the rod and reproof give wisdom, what happens when that reproof is all but watered down to empty threats and empty punishments?
Well, the mother is brought to shame. That shame will come by way of being ashamed of how her child turned out, or shame coming toward her from others, by not raising her child up in a manner that builds wisdom.
That child will grow into an adult. Because wisdom wasn’t instilled into that person, there’s a good chance that he or she will be a worse parent than the former. We have seen this happening and getting worse for over half a century.
Worldly wisdom is quick to take the place of the wisdom that comes lacking from childhood. The wisdom of the Lord will only come by way of intervention, as at times it tends to take something drastic to wake people up to the wisdom of the Father.
On and on, transgressions increase, and at some point for reasons that sound just, the state has become the ones who dictate what reproof is, and they dictate to parents in what manner they should not discipline their child, inevitably removing the chance of a child having a reverent fear of their parents.
This isn’t new, but it continuously gets more extreme against parents, to the point where the state will think nothing of breaking apart a family if they choose to do so. I recall a telephone call I received over our youngest boy while he was in eighth grade.
It was the school’s guidance councilor informing me that it was borderline cruel to have taken away my son’s X-Box as a punishment for whatever it was he did. Yes this actually happened, and I’ve also heard of someone else who was either accused of child abuse, or at least brought up on charges because of the same thing. Taking away something as a punishment.
That was nearly ten years ago. Is it any wonder why we’ve got people doing things out there with little to no idea of what it’s like to have to suffer consequences? Should we be surprised at the millennials who lash out at people when they don’t get their way, or feel like they’ve been emotionally assaulted over otherwise normal things?
From my observations, the baby boomer generation kicked the ball of degeneration down the hill to generation x. We made it an even bigger and heavier ball, and rolled it down the hill to the millennials.
When we can observe how quickly the moral fabric of a nation can deteriorate beginning with the family, it kind of makes it easier to understand how Israel kept messing everything up thousands of years ago.
Remove any meaningful correction, and you remove true wisdom from the minds, hearts, and actions of a people. Transgressions increase and get worse to the point of making those that are former appear to be righteousness instead of wickedness. In comes the opportunity for good being evil, and evil becoming good.
But the righteous will have the misfortune of watching the transgressors fall. Some people want to see them fall, but I would say that it would be better for the Kingdom of the Lord if they would instead repent and turn to the Father through his gift of salvation, rather than taking the fall without the Lord.
It is dangerous waters to correct your kids these days, but the Father in verse 17 tells us that it will be for the best. Someone somewhere is going to have to have enough wisdom and good sense one day to rise against transgressions after they have fallen.
Those who have the Lord and his wisdom, and have been removed from the ways of the world so to speak, will be the ones picking up the pieces should the Lord tarry.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.
Thank you for your wisdom, your understanding, and your knowledge. Help us to never forsake any opportunity to make use of these things that you’ve given us, and to make use of them properly. Help us to raise our children in the way they should go Father, and please do anything that we weren’t able to do for those who have already grown up outside of your wisdom. Nothing is impossible in you Father, and we thank you for your intervention in the lives of all the children of the saints of the Lord. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
