Knowledge of Wisdom – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty four, Verses 13-14
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: 14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Knowledge of Wisdom
There’s a particular order that we’ve seen on display throughout the pages of the book of Proverbs. A system by which we can grow in the Lord spiritually, and will lead to a more fruitful life physically, or in the natural.
That order has been to receive wisdom, then gain or be given understanding of that wisdom, followed by knowledge which comes by way of application of the wisdom learned. Over and over again, we see things listed in that order.
The scripture above takes us one step backward in the three step process. Instead of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, we get knowledge of wisdom, then wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.
Sounds a little confusing, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. How do we learn to seek out wisdom, without first having knowledge of what wisdom we need to start looking for?
I’ve never been to law school, but I know I’d need to in order to become a lawyer. That would mean that I have knowledge of the wisdom required, not the actual knowledge that comes from that wisdom.
Alright… Who cares, and why is this important?
All of us should care firstly; the saved and unsaved alike. Those of us who are saved should be paying attention to where we acquire our knowledge of wisdom, because there is a ton of foolishness out there under the banner of being wise.
Never get too comfortable. Christians are targeted more so than those who are unsaved, in an attempt to derail our right standing with the Father, leading us to sin.
Nobody can cahn us out of our salvation, but they can cahn us out of being effective for the Lord, and cause for us to do things or make decisions that will in the end, make us miserable. Not only for those purposes, but also to prevent us to getting into a place where we begin leading people to the Lord. In the eyes of the enemy, that is a victory.
This is just as important to those who are not saved. The problem is, they don’t know it yet, and some won’t take the little time it takes to find out before it’s too late. They have adhered to the world’s pattern of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; having been deceived by a knowledge of fales wisdom, leading them further away from the Lord.
But when anyone gains the knowledge of wisdom found in the Word of God, and seeks it out like treasure just waiting to be found, it is an exciting thing. Truly the Word of God is correct in saying, that it is as honey to the taste buds.
And as the Father works with you, giving you that wisdom, opening up your understanding to it, and causing you to become knowledgeable from it by application and use, the rewards are great. The greatest rewards, will not leave us, and will become part of our spiritual makeup.
The Lord is always looking for a reason to increase us spiritually, and he has made it possible through his Word prayerfully, guided by his Spirit. But it’s on us to decide to seek him for these things, after having been given knowledge of wisdom, particularly his wisdom, by his written Word.

Romans 11: King James Bible
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Ephesians 1: King James Bible
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
Thank you for all that you’ve placed into your Word, and for all of your intentions behind it. Help us all to avoid false wisdom, that will lead us into trouble or stagnation, but open our eyes and hearts to follow knowledge of wisdom that leads straight to your throne room. We seek to get ever closer to you Father, lead and guide us along the road you’ve paved ahead of us, and keep our feet from taking detours. Thank you Lord, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
