Daily Inspiration from These Verses
Could the Lord be any more personal than beginning a sentence with “my son?” Just replace the word “son” with the word “daughter” if you’re female. Clearly the Father is leaning close to tell us something extremely helpful in these two verses.
The verses above give us who are saved, a target as to how we should be conducting ourselves. Not as it relates to our salvation, but relating to our existence here, as we sojourn through this world as ambassadors of Christ.
He gives us this advice to help us out, or in other words, to give us a leg up. Do we want length of days, long life, and peace? Well, the Father has given us the keys to achieve these things.
- Forget not his law
- keep his commandments with your heart
So what does this mean? It means, first order of business is to know what his law and commandments are in the first place as they relate to us who believe. If you don’t first know what the Lord wants us to do, how can you “forget them not” or “keep them in your heart?”
Countless hours, days, weeks, months, and years, worth of disquiet or trouble are avoided by the instruction of the Father. Get to know God’s Word and know what it is that he expects from us, as you get to know him more personally.

Matthew 22: King James Bible
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
John 13: King James Bible
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
You promise us length of days, and long life, and peace, for being mindful of your law and holding fast your commandments in our hearts. We ask that you help us to do so. Stir us up to get into your Word. May the Holy Ghost lead us as we traverse through the pages, and may you write your laws and commandments upon our hearts. Not merely for us to stay out of trouble, but rather for you to take all the more pleasure in your children. We ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus our Savior.
