Proverbs 4: King James Bible
Life and Health – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter four, Verses 20-22
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses
More promises from the Lord God, explaining the physical benefits that come from his precious Word. As before, we’re given a set of instructions to follow in order to activate that promise.
- Attend to his words
- Incline our ears (listen) to his Word
- keep your eyes on them
- Get them in your heart
Earlier in these devotionals covering chapter four, we explored the Lord’s prescription for achieving “Length of Days.” Then, we touched on the subject of wisdom and understanding as being a “Tree of Life.” Following that, the Lord explains to us about “Life to the Soul.” Then we are admonished by the Father as he tells us to “Keep My Commandments and Live.”
Notice a roundabout theme going on here? All of which are instructing us as to how to live longer, better, stronger, meaningful, and sound lives. These concentrate on the physical condition being manipulated by spiritual means.
The verses above are no different! In fact, I would look at verse 22 as a cause and effect verse. When we follow the Lord’s instructions, given to us in verses 20-21, the Word of God breathes life into our spirit. That life breaks through into the physical, with the effect of bringing health to our flesh.
All that said, I’d think that the instructions above become void if one were to be removed from the list. If you’d like to read deeper into these four instructions, check out the links I provided above, as they all work hand in hand on each of these four steps.
God the Father wants for us to be spiritually healthy, and also physically healthy. He’d rather for us to be exactly as he originally designed. The Lord didn’t make us to be ill, in pain, messed up in whatever fashion. That’s the world’s doing, or the aftermath of sin and foolishness on behalf of ourselves or in many circumstances our relatives.
Maybe, just maybe, the Father’s instructions are better than the world’s report on our lives.

Prayer – Life and Health
You’ve graciously given us the instructions, open our understanding to properly receive them. Renew our minds Lord, so that we can know in depth, the process of life to the flesh by way of spiritual means that you provide, instead of the fleshly means that this world provides. We seek your kingdom and your righteousness, and know that all these things will be added unto us. Your way is far better, but help us to the extent that your way is easily understood, and may it be done by your Spirit. In the mighty name of the Lord Jesus the Christ we pray.
Have you understood and applied the four steps that the Lord gives us to benefit from as they relate to life and health?
