Light of Darkness – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter thirteen, Verse 9
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Light of Darkness
I’m not too sure if it’s just how my brain works, or what the reasoning is. But the first thing that came to mind after reading this verse, was the parable of the ten virgins with the ten lamps.
What’s strange is, this verse could be placed at the end of that parable, to sum it all up as the final result. However, the verse really doesn’t mention any lamp of the righteous. But rather, it says the light of the righteous. No lamp required, when you’ve got the Lord Jesus. What lamp can contain the Light of the World?
But this verse also brings to mind the lamp of the eye. Remember what Jesus said about the eye?
Matthew 6: King James Bible
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
I included these verses from Matthew, because the Lord brings up something rather strange, that is answered by the verse above in Proverbs. And that is, how there is a “light of darkness.” (I told you it was strange.)
What gives off light of darkness? Well, verse 9 up above tells us the lamp of the wicked. Do you know what one of the differences are, between the Light of the World and the lamp of the wicked?
The Light of the World is eternal, always on, never to be quenched. But any lamp can only hold so much fuel, till it burns out. Anyone who adhere’s to wickedness, and takes pleasure in the light of darkness, will always be in danger of burning out.
But for us who take part in the Light of the World, the Lord Jesus Christ, we’ll always have a single or whole eye, filling the body with his light. Praise God for his precious Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Matthew 25: King James Bible
25 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
John 8: King James Bible
12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Thank you for all of your scripture, that complements each other, and helps us to increase of our knowledge of you, your ways, your Son, and your will. We thank you also for your grace, which you’ve been so generous with. Please lead those who are wallowing in darkness, to come into the Light of Life, who is Jesus, and may they have their blinders removed, so that they may see clearly and be lead directly unto you, and call upon the name of the Lord for their salvation. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
Isn’t it a strange concept, to consider that there is a light of darkness?
