Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Like Deep Water
The description given above, should be observed carefully, if we’d like to get a good glimpse into the spiritual realm of the heart. This is a place that goes much deeper than feelings and things of that nature, but a place in the heart that can’t be found with the naked eye, nor can it be found by any other earthly means.
When the Word describes counsel in the heart of man to be as (or like) deep waters, what should that be telling us? First, let’s take a view into what deep waters are like.
- Deep Waters are Dark
The light from the sun doesn’t penetrate into the depths of the seas. Only when a vessel enters into the depths bearing it’s own light can it see anything around it. From just under the surface, you can look dawn at it and see the darkness, but you never see what is swimming or crawling around in the deep.
- Deep Waters are Vast
We know more about other planets and the moon itself (if we believe NASA) than we do about our own seas, and all of the contents therein. All the time there are either new things or things that were thought to be extinct, swimming or creeping from the depths of the seas.
Think about it for a moment… When we explore land, we’re only thinking about what’s physically on the surface. When in the deep, and you’ve made it to the surface (the ocean floor), there could be anything a mile above you, ahead of you, behind you, etc… Not just one plane like exploring dry land.
Another way to put it, would be if you were exploring the mountains of Alaska, you’d be concerned about bears coming at you from the ground, right? If the same rules applied on land that apply in the sea, you’d have to worry about bears coming at you from all directions, including whatever direction from the sky! How’s that for a thought?
Well, I went into all of that, so that we can get just a small glimpse of what the Lord understands about our hearts, and the lifetime of different forms of council that we all have stored in that deep dark place. I believe that we are equipped with the same types of capacities within our hearts, as the Lord himself has.
Granted, whatever we do have would pale in comparison to the deep waters of counsel of the Lord’s heart, but perhaps it could be better stated as the same design. After all, it is the same creator, who made us in his image.
The difference is, he doesn’t need someone equipped with the right lighting to do down and search out the wisest choice for any given matter. We on the other hand, need him, and the light shed abroad into our hearts through the Holy Ghost, who can guide us and draw out the best out of all the counsel available within the deep waters of our hearts. Or perhaps even from the Throne of the Lord himself!
