No Revenge

Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 20 P. 292 – No Revenge

Proverbs 20: King James Bible

No Revenge – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty, Verse 22

22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.

Daily Inspiration from This Verse – No Revenge

Doesn’t it seem like the Lord likes to take all the fun out of being angry and vindictive? No recompense after being wronged; no trading evil for evil; no taking matters into your own hands when you see fit against someone that wronged you, etc.. It just takes all of the fun out of it, wouldn’t you say?

Well, we feel that way because the flesh is wicked, and in nearly every way, diametrically opposed to doing things the way the Lord wants things done. Which is why we must crucify the flesh, put it in it’s place as often as is required, and live by the spirit not by the flesh.

No revenge is sanctioned by the Lord at our hand. The verse above makes it clear, “he shall save,” and elsewhere it says, “he shall repay,” when evil has been done to us. Please, don’t confuse this with defending yourself or your family during a situation that requires responsible action. Nowhere does it say that we are to be lemmings.

The real issue is, that revenge, vengeance, and recompense against others isn’t merely something that the Lord is offering to do for us. It goes much deeper and more defined than that.

It is literally his! “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord!” It is his, and of all the different things that he has chosen to share with us his children, vengeance isn’t one of them. That is an ability that he has reserved for himself.

So, should we think that we would be right to take vengeance or recompense against another who has brought evil upon us in some way, isn’t just making a mistake, but is in fact stealing from the Lord. Sounds extreme doesn’t it? Well, it is what it is.

When we take liberties to take and use something of someone else’s without permission, that’s called stealing, right? Well, the Lord tells us not to take part in it. He also tells us to wait on him. Furthermore, he tells us that it belongs to him!

So who do we think we are, thinking that the Creator of all the universe is too slow to act in our behalf, that we take from him what hasn’t been given? Some people I believe (especially in this area), think that they are more efficient than the Lord.

That somehow, we can deal out some vengeance better and more efficiently than the Father sounds a bit loony, right? But pride can have a way about it, to dissuade us from even taking a matter that calls for vengeance to the Lord, but in reality, hopes that the Lord isn’t looking.

Pride is the culprit, that causes for us to lash out and give recompense, when we should have waited on the Lord.  No revenge will be without all forms of trouble, either in the now, or in the future. When you take something that belongs to God, and decide to use it as God, you will never come out for the better.

Romans 12: King James Bible

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

2 Thessalonians 1: King James Bible

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

Hebrews 10: King James Bible

30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Thank you for the patience that you display toward us, and that you don’t react to things as we do. If you did, we’d all have been dashed into dust by now. But you are merciful toward those who are unworthy of your mercy. Please affix this trait of yours inside of all of your children, so that we are not tempted through pride, to trade evil for evil, and put you aside while we do what is right in our own eyes, rather than what is right by your will. Remind us always that no revenge belongs to us, but all of it is yours. Help us all with this Father, as the days get more evil, and the world gets more wicked. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Do you notice your flesh slightly disappointed when we read about no revenge allowed when wronged?
