Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 29 P. 474 – Oil and Water

Proverbs 29: King James Bible

Oil and Water – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty nine, Verse 27

27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Oil and Water

I believe that it is demonstrable, that we are truly living in the days where evil has become good, and good evil. What we can witness during any giving week on a national scale, is how it plays out in time.

Not just this nation, but in a relatively short amount of time it seems the entire world has acclimated toward things that are wicked, and have shunned things that are upright. Across the face of the earth right now, there is conflict between people who adhere to wickedness, versus those who reject it.

They mix like oil and water, hence the name of this devotional. This isn’t a new thing though. After all, the verse above is thousands of years old. It just as true then as it is now. The difference is the frequency and the extremity of it all.

Because this verse is crystal clear, and all you have to do to gain a deeper understanding of it is to pay attention to the news of the day (preferably not from the MSM). But as Christians that are supposed to thirst for righteousness and not wickedness, and to love what is good and hate what is evil, but at the same time get the message out to the lost (who are the same who adhere to wickedness or evil), what do we do?

Well, we’re instructed about the company we keep in many places of the Word of God. Not to associate with or partake in the wickedness of the wicked. So what do we do? Not everyone has a come to Jesus moment and strolls up to a Christian wondering how they can be saved.

We need to be heard; get our voices out there and through being wise as serpents and innocent as doves, move through them without being tainted by the world. What that means is simple.

Hate the sin, love the sinner. Make an impression upon someone without Christ through good works and showing the fruit of the Spirit by way of example as best we can. Take no part in their sin. But on the other hand, make it clear why you’ll have no part.

As I mentioned in a previous devotional, Jesus himself hung around and dined with what the pharisees would have considered “wicked” people, because they were unrepentant of their sins. However, if you look closely, none of those who were sinners were practicing their sin in his presence.

I believe that there’s something to be said for that. By hearing the words of Jesus, and being able to examine him practicing the same things he preached, and also bearing witness to what the Lord did through him in terms of miracles, the desire to be near him and hear him out was greater than their desire to be in sin.

At least for those hours spent with him. We don’t know their stories after that.

Though the wicked and the righteous mix like oil and water, Jesus has given us the ability to turn oil into water (figuratively speaking). Through the power of the Holy Ghost, and Christ in us, the hope of glory, we can make such an impression on the wicked to either head for the hills, or eventually find out the worth of repentance, and the salvation of Christ.

This is the point behind being the ambassadors of Christ here on the earth. Can we say to anyone be imitators of us as we are of Jesus? We should all be working toward that end as those who are called by his name.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for your Word which brings us clarity, and provokes us to search you out even deeper than before. Bring a clarity into our beings of the black and white division between that which is unjust and wicked, versus that which is just and upright. Help us to shun wickedness and that which you have deemed abominable. At the same time, help us all in our walk, to have such a likeness of you that people decide to have what we’re having, which are the fruits of the Spirit of the Living God at work in us, and through us. All for the benefit of your Kingdom, and your will. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

  1. Thanks Brian…yes, we do live in strange times i.e. evil is good, good is evil. While this has been going on for thousands of years, it is due to the access to media coverage, that it appears so prevalent today. For those of us old enough to remember the “Leave it to Beaver” era, the America that we loved has been turned upside down. We have no choice but to walk in faith, obedient to our Lord; and if by chance someone asks us about the faith that lies within us, we will share the gospel…it’s not too late. Thanks Brian…stay strong Brother.

    • Amen George,
I remember when I was a kid in the late 70’s early 80’s, looking at shows like Leave it to Beaver, or others from the same era, thinking “Wow, things were a lot better then.” I never thought I’d look back to the 70’s and 80’s and think to myself, “Wow, things were a lot better then.”
This whole world has come off the chain, and as you said, walk by faith in obedience to the Lord. As far as I’m concerned, nothing else can be trusted to be 100% true but the Word of the Lord and the signs of the times.

Thanks for your comment Brother, and God bless!
