Proverbs 29: King James Bible
Partner with a Thief – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty nine, Verse 24
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Partner with a Thief
Why would anyone want to be partnered with a thief? You’d think that were you to find out you’re hanging around or doing business alongside a thief, you’d change course.
Evidently the person in the verse above did not. But why? And what does it mean that he hates his own soul?
If you are partnered with someone who is willing to be a thief, then you’re partnered with impending trouble. It may not come today or tomorrow, but it will certainly come.
Guilty by association is one problem the guy above will have to deal with, that comes when the thief is eventually taken to task. Or, maybe in time he’d learn that the thief was taking from him as well. Big surprise.
Larger problems come, when the thief brings trouble down upon the business, or whatever is causing you to be partnered with the thief, and you already know that he’s a thief. When he gets caught doing something, and you’re involved even in the slightest of ways, to have foreknown that he was a thief and yet continued on with him won’t be received well at all.
I believe that the person above who is partnered with a thief already knows about his crooked ways. The latter half of the verse fills us in. He heard cursing, but from who?
The way I interpreted this section of the verse, is that he heard others cursing about the thief, yet did nothing. He heard cursing going on with the partner himself, and yet continued on.
He “bewrayeth it not.” This tells us that he did nothing to expose the thief. Somehow, the guy above had seen the truth of the wicked ways of the thief, yet did nothing, said nothing, and continued on.
We get a sense that this individual himself is not a thief. However, due to his lack of action and his unwillingness to heed warning signs, he will either fall into trouble by that same thief, or be victimized by him.
So all of this leads us to a couple of questions that the Word of God asks us. What part does righteousness have in unrighteousness? Or what communion does light have with darkness?
For those of us who are called by Christ’s name, how much hell is acceptable to invite into our lives? Or even still, how much of hell do you want?
Anybody who knows what is right yet fails to do it, for that person it is sin. We see this in action also in the verse above.
This is how one hates his own soul:
By knowing better than to continue on in our actions or lack of action, yet consciously decide to change nothing.
Does that sound like people using wisdom to its fullest? Does that sound like something Jesus would do? I’d say no to all counts.
Though Jesus may have kept company with sinners, he didn’t partake in them, and also preached against the sins, providing a means of escape for these people to repent. Everyone around him knew that he loved righteousness and hated iniquity.
So, to use Jesus as an excuse to stay on a destructive course is just the flesh’s way of trying to hang on to whatever it gains from sin, even if it’s a sense of peace by not troubling the waters.
If we’re stuck in a situation such as the one described in the verse above, to do nothing is not an option without sin if you know there’s something wicked going on. So what can we do?
At the very least, we can pray. This is the perfect starting point for any situation such as the topic at hand. Even if we think we already know what must be done, check in with the Lord first to be sure. It doesn’t hurt, it costs us nothing, and nobody else needs to know about it.
I believe that we are entering into a time where close associations with people that are wicked will cause far more harm to the righteous than it ever has before. And yes, even unto death.
We’ve been warned about this for 2,000 years or so. Now we are entering a time of unprecedented fulfillment of scripture and prophecy happening throughout the world right now, and in the past few years.
When the time comes for prophecies that warn of the wicked turning against the righteous, thinking that they’re doing the Lord a favor, where is silence and rolling along with the changes going to get us then?

Matthew 10: King James Bible
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

John 16: King James Bible
16 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. 2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
2 Corinthians 6: King James Bible
13 Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Thank you for your Word, and for your warnings against falling into situations that will invite trouble or harm into our lives unnecessarily. Help all of us to heed your Word, no matter our circumstances or situations. For those of us that may already be in situations such as being partnered with a thief, or anyone that is wicked, lead us to do that which you know would solve the situation. Nothing is impossible with you Father, and your creativity is boundless as it relates to all things, especially helping out your kids. We seek tangible council from you Father concerning these things, and ask for your intervention. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
If everyone around you knows that you are a partner with a thief, wouldn’t you think they would think the same of you as they would of him?
