Proverbs 28: King James Bible
Perverse shall Fall – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty eight, Verses 17-18
17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him. 18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Perverse shall Fall
Not all that long ago, we talked about what it means to be perverse in a devotional called “Live Upright.” That particular devotional was covering verse six of this chapter, and compared those who were poor but upright versus those who were rich yet perverse.
In that devotional we learned that it is better to be poor yet upright, rather than loaded and perverse. Verse eighteen above tells us why that is.
The perverse shall fall. This is not something that is subject to chance. When the Lord says something “shall” happen, it can be counted on as a sure thing. There’s no way around what the Lord has established, despite the best efforts of mankind.
The perverse shall fall, but the Lord gives us a particular manner of their fall, being “at once.” This does not mean immediately, as someone may use the term, “Pick that up at once!” Instead it means suddenly or once for all. “Everything was gone all at once.”
Some render “perverse in his ways” to mean someone who vacillates between what is good or evil. I would use this interpretation as it would relate to the things of the spirit. Trying to pick and choose what part of the Word of God to believe, and what parts to discard, would certainly create a perversion of the way the Lord intended his Word to be understood.
This is something that goes on all the time, and the Lord promises that the perverse shall fall. Someone who is perverse in his ways has mingled the world into things of the spirit. These two do not get along.
If you went out and purchased a gallon of fresh and clean spring water, and watched me open it, and with an eyedropper, place two drips of sewage into it, would you drink it? Of course you wouldn’t! Why not though? It’s just a tiny amount of sewage, right?
Two drips of sewage into a gallon of clean water begets a gallon of sewage. So then why would we seek out to blend the world which has fallen and is wicked, with the things of the Lord which are pure? Take the gospel for an example…
What if we change up the gospel, so that there is just a little bit of a lie inside of it. How many lies are required before the gospel becomes false? There is a difference between bitter and sweet, good and evil, right and wrong.
The perverse shall fall because they will not adhere to the right things of the Lord, but will shift and move toward what is more beneficial, or makes them more comfortable. This is the danger of treating the Word as if it’s a Stretch Armstrong doll, bending and contorting it to suit ourselves, rather than conforming to the will of he Lord, and his Word. Add something fallen into something holy, and you wind up with something fallen, never the other way around.
Yes the Lord is that extreme as it would relate toward spiritual matters, and praise be to the Lord for Christ Jesus, and the blessed hope of the Spirit of the Living God. If anything, understanding how extremely just the Lord is should cause for us to rejoice and thank him for his mercies in sending his only begotten Son to the cross, to pay the penalties for our transgressions, and save us from hell death and the grave.
We all need to be saved!

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Thank you for your Word and your guidance through it by your Holy Spirit. Help us all to avoid perverting ourselves in our walk with you. Set a guard in our hearts Lord, that will raise the alarm when anything of this wicked world tries to get in and make a home there. Also bring to our attention any occasion that we may try to distort your Word to mean something that we want it to mean, rather than what you have intended. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
