Proverbs 14: King James Bible
Prideful Mouth – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter fourteen, Verse 3
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Prideful Mouth
A wise person knows when to hold his tongue. Even a fool who holds his peace is deemed wise (doesn’t mean that he is, but there’s nothing to weigh when one keeps silent). However, a fool holding his peace is a rare event.
It is my opinion, that anyone (saved or unsaved) can be foolish, or behave foolishly. It happens, and often it may be out of ignorance, or just by being in one of those moods. That not withstanding, the verse above is particular toward an iniquity that we’ve touched on a time or two.
That iniquity, is called pride. When pride exits the mouth, more often than not, the fruit is sin. And it pains me to say, that anywhere I’ve ever been, and in any group of people I’ve ever associated with, either online or otherwise, I’ve never witnessed pride as I have in the Body of Christ.
To say that this shouldn’t be so is a resounding understatement, and should simply go without saying. But it’s true. In many cases, it is part of the package one receives, when harboring a religious spirit.
A religious spirit causes one to be absolute in their own understanding, and should anyone disagree with them over things outside of salvation, well, they’re just going to hell. If you don’t adhere to their prophetic understanding, well, you’re a deceiver and are going to hell.
If you believe in the rapture, and the religious spirit does not, you’re obviously not saved, have no discernment, and are going to hell. Same is true if those beliefs are swapped.
The perfect works of Christ on the cross are never enough for these people, but there must be more that you have to do, after having received Christ’s salvation, in order to be saved. That’s typically the bottom line, and if your understanding of something is different than how they understand it, they don’t think for one minute that they could be in err, but insist that you’re wrong.
In my opinion, this is the worst of all the wicked spirits that can be harbored by folks, because they have a way of hiding in “religion,” using a lethal combination of the Word of God, and a boatload of pride.
In many circumstances, it’s this foolishness that exits the mouth, that causes others to fall into a false doctrine through fear. I believe that preaching hell fire is an effective way to witness to certain people, because for some, that’s all that might penetrate their flesh, and reach the heart. But that’s touching on getting someone saved, not after salvation.
Jesus said to learn of him, that he was meek and lowly in heart. He didn’t say that to those people, because he’ll somehow be different in glory. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And if he was meek and lowly in heart then, he is now.
However, a religious spirit, using man’s foolish iniquity (pride) to it’s advantage, will always cause for people to stumble. Particularly those who don’t take the time, to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Instant in the Word in season, and out of season.
It is vital for the believer, to have a well rounded understanding of the Word of God, to prevent being deceived by every wind of doctrine.

1 Timothy 6: King James Bible
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1 John 2: King James Bible
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Forgive us for times of foolishness, and even times where we’ve been prideful for whatever the situation. Help us Lord, to give no place for the devil to step in and build upon our iniquities (should we be found with iniquities). And if you look and do find iniquities within any of us, please remove it from our hearts, and heal all wounds that it may try to leave behind. We don’t want to harbor anything that you haven’t placed in us. All for your glory Lord, so that we may serve and represent you better. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
