Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Purchase Wisdom
Despite someone’s social status, it doesn’t take long after someone opens their mouth to determine whether or not someone harbors sound wisdom. That’s much different than sounding smart. Rich folks have the means to attain a good education, and be every bit as smart as they are able to be.
But being smart has nothing to do with wisdom. There’s no amount of riches that can purchase wisdom. You can’t buy it. Of all the things that a wealthy person can purchase, wisdom isn’t for sale.
Now you can spend thousands to get an education, but you’ll not walk out of college with any wisdom. For many people, the ability to know how to make tons of money is equated with wisdom. You need to be wise to make riches, don’t you?
No. That isn’t true wisdom at all, but is the wisdom of the world and the manipulations of it’s systems to work favorably toward someone. Above, we see a rich man that deems himself wise due to his ability to acquire wealth. Because he’s rich, he deems himself wise.
Therefore, those who are not as rich, or rich at all, even the poor, can watch the man expose every area of his life that exploits his lack of true wisdom. Sure, he is wise in the way of finance and acquiring riches, but can he change a tire? Can he cook himself a good meal? Does he know how to use a washing machine or dryer? Dishwasher? If the pilot goes out for the furnace, can he relight it? Prime an oil burner?
Does he display an even temper? Is he merciful? Does he place others above himself?
What if calamity happens to a rich person who has lived lavishly due to his wealth? How clueless he would appear to those who have had to things on their own, rather than having the money to pay someone else to do it.
I’m not saying that all rich people are fools, or are fools at all. Not everyone who is rich started out that way. Some people work their way to the top, are diligent, blessed by the Lord, what have you. But let me put it this way…
If you took all the rich people of the world, and placed them on one island, cut off from their wealth and worldly resources, and took an equal amount of everyone else and placed them on another island, cut off from worldly resources, which would you suppose would be the first to flounder or flourish? Which do you think you’d survive longer on? I’d be jumping to the poor man’s island, because there will be people who know how to get things done that have zero to do with finance.
When it relates to being wise as it would tend toward life, riches could be seen as a deterrent to wisdom. Rugged individualism requires experience, making decisions upon wisdom gained through having gone through something. When you’ve got the money to depend on that individualism of someone else, yours might have eroded your own all that much more.
A delusional rich person is the worst. They think so highly of themselves, and wind up believing the garbage that they come up with. They would trade the Word of God for a lie, even one they made up themselves in their own conceit.
The difference between a godless man who is rich, verses one who is poor, is that the rich have the power to be a louder voice for their own mischief and foolish conclusions. Because they are rich and may have achieved some fame, others think they must have some sort of wisdom.
Riches are wonderful if you’re fortunate enough to enjoy them. Nothing wrong with being rich. But to be rich without being in a firm relationship with the Father through Christ Jesus, is a road to delusion, amplified pride, mental problems, emotional problems, stress, easily led to all kinds of crazy beliefs, the whole gambit times ten.
Anyone can be without the Lord and experience all of the above. But riches acquire more for a person, and trouble is no exception. It just behaves differently to achieve the same end.
Rich or poor, without the wisdom of the Father we’re as good as broke, and broken. Regardless anyone’s financial situation, if you don’t have a personal one on one relationship with the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ, you need to get saved from what’s awaiting you. After receiving the free gift of salvation that the Lord has to offer you, wisdom is only a prayer away.

Thank you for your Word, and for the wisdom that you have made available to all who seek it from you. Teach us to be wise as serpents, and innocent as doves, as we traverse through a world that has come up with its own set of ideas concerning its own wisdom. Help us with wisdom, and also understanding and a working knowledge and application of your Word, your wisdom, into our daily lives. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
