Proverbs 6: King James Bible
Reward of the Froward – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter six, Verses 12-15
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. 13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Reward of the Froward
In the devotionals that are covered in chapter 5, we discussed the “Reward of the Wicked.” Here, we see the same for those who revel in being froward. Here’s a definition, since this isn’t a word that we hear used often these days.
willfully contrary; not easily managed:
We live in a time right now, where being froward against all things that have to do with Christ Jesus isn’t just happening on a titanic scale, but is encouraged through a variety or means. Public education, the religious view of different forms of science, a chorus of different religions, celebrities, and virtually all forms of media, are willingly contrary (froward) toward all the things that have to do with the One True God Almighty, and his only begotten Son Christ Jesus the Lord.
As described and explained in “Kingdom of Darkness in a Fallen World,” this world is not ever willing to be a friend- of the Cross, nor should we toil to become friends with the world. It belongs (at least for the moment) to Satan and his Kingdom, that is doomed to fail by the coming of the Lord, on the day of the Lord. But until then, it belongs to our enemy.
That being said, it should come to no surprise that the froward are in their heyday during these last days. As we can see in the scripture driving this devotional, they will not go unpunished by the Lord for their prideful heart condition.
We shall all reap what we sow, either while we’re here on earth, or for all eternity. In my opinion, Being froward and difficult is actually the opposite of meekness and humility. Both of these are traits of the Lord, that offer blessings to those who embodies these traits.
But the reward of the froward person is calamity. Not just calamity, but sudden calamity. And as we discussed earlier in this chapter, without wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and diligence bestowed upon us by the Father, sudden calamity can snowball into its own monster in one’s life.
And in this sense (among many) the froward will with certainty, be broken beyond repair. When one who is willingly making a stand against the Lord and his anointed falls, who is it that will be there to pick them back up?

Acts 13: King James Bible
10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
2 Peter 3: King James Bible
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
There are so many different directions that this world is designed to try to sway us from the course that you’ve set before us. Let us not walk as the froward man, nor crave the things of the wicked man. Help us to be holy, as you are holy. Help us to be ever more like you, and all the less as a product of this fallen world. In the mighty name of the Lord Jesus we pray.
Have you ever witnessed the unfortunate and terrible reward of the froward?
