Proverbs 28: King James Bible
Riotous Men – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty eight, Verse 7
7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Riotous Men
I wonder how often riotous people think of their father when they’re causing hate and discontent? For the younger ones, I’ll bet it’s when they are making their phone call from the police station, looking to get some bail money and a ride home.
I couldn’t help but think about all that has been going on of late, after reading this verse. People showing up at protests, with a variety of weapons and face masks, trying everything they can to intimidate and shut down people. These are the cowards that call themselves Anti-fa, and they would certainly apply to the latter half of the verse above.
These are not protesters, but are by definition riotous men (and women). I find it unlikely that any of them give any shred of care toward the thoughts and feelings of their fathers. Without a doubt, they certainly don’t display any care toward the thoughts of our Heavenly Father. As far as they’re concerned, I’m sure they have a variety of beliefs that exclude the Lord himself. Just an assumption by the weight of their fruits.
This is something that may seem way off topic, but please humor me for a moment…
I noticed something that started in the mid to late 90’s, about the general flavor of musical lyrics. I know it went on for over a decade afterward, but I tuned out since then, so I’m not too sure if it is still going on.
What I noticed in music, was that the general topics of discussion that would most often be the discussed lyrically (love, cars, history, sex, drugs, rock & roll), turned into an enormous victim fest. Daddy didn’t love me, mommy doesn’t care, I’m a loser, I don’t want to be like my parents, etc…
Personally, I have an enormous hard spot toward pity parties, so I tuned out in those days, and went backward in time for something to listen to. Anything that wasn’t a bunch of grown men wining about themselves and how much they hated their parents.
The thing about music lyrics, is that we enjoy to sing along, and make the same sinful and wicked confessions that the singer is bringing upon himself. Isn’t that wonderful? It is such a smooth way to cause for us to confess things and curse ourselves or others.
It is so easy to forget that every word uttered will be brought up while standing before the Lord. I wonder how literal the Lord was, when he said “every idle word?”
This brings us to where we’re at now as a nation, or as a people across the world. We’ve got all manner of turmoil, and surprise, surprise! People not giving a hoot about their parents, and scoff at the thought of caring whether or not they are getting involved in things that would bring shame to their father.
Countries have risen and fallen throughout history, but there are themes that cross continents that get progressively worse, and progressively further from any knowledge of the Word of God. There is no truth, mercy, or knowledge of God in the land, and we get the unfortunate privilege to see scripture being fulfilled in a way we’d rather not.
4 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. 3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
Generation after generation, falling further away from the Father, becoming riotous, and bringing shame upon their families, and further distancing themselves from the Lord. Sure, these things have always happened, but these days, nobody but the people of the Lord seem to care.
Prayerfully speaking, we live in an age where everywhere is a target rich environment. Pray for this generation Saints of the Lord!

3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
Thank you for your Word, your mercy, your truth, and your patience. Especially your patience! Help us all to pray as we aught, being led by the Holy Ghost, and confessing things over ourselves and others that will not curse, but rather bless. May we become a blessing to all, and use us however you will, to convert as many as will be converted, to move as many hearts as is possible, all according to your plan, your will, your heart. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray,
Have you ever been a companion to riotous men?
