Spreading Falsehoods

Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 21 P. 322 – Spreading Falsehoods

Proverbs 21: King James Bible

Spreading Falsehoods – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty one, Verse 28

28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.

Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Spreading Falsehoods

A false witness is akin to a germ that lands on someone’s body. If it winds up landing in an area where it can be ingested into the body, the whole body will suffer the effects of that germ. Fortunately in most cases, there are antibodies around that will wipe out that germ. Even after it’s dealt with,  it may take awhile to recoup from it’s influence on the body.

Such is also true in any given body. Be it a body of coworkers, friends, family,  students, or the Body of Christ. A false witness spreading falsehoods, is a danger to any of the above.

Like the germ used in the example above, a spoken falsehood will travel from person to person, till everyone at least knows of the falsehood. Whether or not people believe it is up to them.

People just might believe what is false over the truth. Others may not fully believe the lie, but entertains it seriously enough to damper their faith, or perhaps skew their thoughts toward someone. I think we’ve all seen this in action in the past, anywhere throughout our lives.

Having a perspective as an ex-foreman of a shop of over 60 people, I can tell you right now, that the venom of lies and gossip can stifle productivity, and cause problems between people. That’s one of the reasons that a good attitude is borderline preferable, over someone experienced but harboring a bad attitude.

You can train and teach someone with a great attitude. But when someone with a bad attitude is causing issues in a place of work, it’s cheaper to fire and replace that person, regardless of the experience.Like a germ, that kind of thing left alone will continue to create problems, that will constantly need to be worked out till it’s gone. But then, you need to deal with the aftermath.

That is what the verse above is talking about. The aftermath of what a talebearer, or a false witness leaves behind. Just look at how many religions are based around a false witness, that are thriving today. For we who are saved and cleansed by the blood of the Lamb, it is staggering to see, yet not surprising.

That is a view of spreading falsehoods on a grand scale. But regardless the scale, or the amount of people that continue to push a lie or falsehood long after it’s originator is gone, continues the damage. Think of what this does to a small church.

Spreading falsehoods in church, or anywhere else for that matter, isn’t the same as creating them, just repeating them. Either way, it reveals a lack of discernment and spiritual discipline.

In other words, are we the antibodies that will snuff out a germ attacking the body? Or are we a carrier of that germ? The Lord would rather us be the antibody, and not carry a falsehood any further than ourselves.

Relating to spiritual matters, or Biblical issues, we should know the Word well enough to spot falsehoods when they come. Not eager to believe anything we hear, without first testing it against the Word of God. If it’s something of the Lord, and in sync with his Word, then shout from the housetops. But if someone is spreading falsehoods, and we don’t recognize it as such, that falls on our shoulders should we be the ones purveying it.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for your Word, and the time you spend with us as we go through it. Help us to discern between lies and the truth, what is false and what isn’t. Help us to be knowledgeable in all things Lord, so that when falsehood is presented to us, we know the correct response, that will stop the falsehood in its tracks. Also, give us special wisdom and understanding guided by your spirit, that we can convince a false witness of their error, and cause the purveyor of it to repent if either are even possible Lord. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Amen

  1. Greetings Brian…thanks once again. Yes, indeed, spreading falsehoods through out a church can be devestating. I have seen the ugly results i.e. church splits, hurt believers leaving and not coming back etc etc. The Lord can’t possibly be pleased with this. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked on ships in MSC. My last ship had plenty of acrimony, and the bad part is that no one is going home from work, like a regular work site. The entire crew is on the ship, 24 hours a day. So that this acrimony was constantly stewing; not good. Much better, as you pointed out, to have folks that have a good attitude…much healthier evironment. Hope everything is going well for you, Brother…stay strong.

  2. Hi Brian

Wanted to let you know I really like how you introduce Jesus Christ to a dying world of people … in fact your write up in the lower right hand column is very unique & openly inviting … I can really see the Holy Spirit thru those words! Quote “if you have been feeling the weight of the world upon your shoulders for any reason”, … all the way thru to … “ask Him to be with you, to remove the weight off of you, to dwell inside of you” … etc.
Truthfully, I have never read such a Holy Spirit inspired invitation to accept Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior. POWERFULLY created … thank you for sharing & better yet … thank you Brian for caring!
Just had to stop by & give you a SHOUT OUT! God bless you!

    • Hi CL,
Thank you Sister for your kind words and your comment! I’m truly humbled by the things that you’ve said. I only pray that should any need to find the Lord that come across this site, find those words and recognize the invitation! All glory and praise to he who sits upon the throne! God bless you and may the Lord grant you favor in all that he’s got you doing for him!
      In Christ,
      Brian
