Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 18 P. 248 – Strong in Spirit

Proverbs 18: King James Bible

Strong in Spirit – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter eighteen, Verse 14

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Strong in Spirit

We came across a very similar verse not too long ago back in chapter 17, in a devotional called “A Broken Spirit.” There, we spoke a bit about the relation between a spirit of a person and the heart.

In the verse above, the Lord is allowing us to recognize the strength of the spirit, in comparison to the flesh. Your spirit will endure through any infirmity that your flesh may be suffering. On the other hand, you could feel like a million bucks, yet be sickened into stagnation should you be suffering from a wounded spirit.

Scripture tells us to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. It also tells us that the Father is spirit, and that we must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Why I’m bring those two pieces of scripture up, is because the Father is spirit, that needs no flesh of any kind, yet can display his power and authority at will. We on the other hand, though we may be strong in spirit, have limits called the flesh.

If we are strong in spirit, but count on the flesh, we’re done for. But we instead count on he who needs no flesh to get anything done. The flesh is just waiting to be changed in a twinkling of an eye, from a body corrupted and corruptible, to incorruptible. We have received the Holy Ghost as a token of this promise.

We are sealed by the Spirit of thee promise, and through him, should we be suffering a wounded spirit, can heal our spirits just as well as he can heal our mortal flesh. But that goes for those of us who have Christ Jesus and are Born Again.

If someone doesn’t have Christ as their Lord and Savior, and suffers a wounded spirit, how can it be possible to mend? I believe this is where all kinds of spirituality comes into play, all having their own sets of promises, and all being an abomination to the Lord. There are thousands of different religions that are just waiting for someone to come along with a wounded spirit.

The Father clearly wills of us to be strong in spirit, and not weak. To be sound in faith, and not to waver. To be strong in the Lord, and to not doubt. To feast on the Word of God as if a meal for the spirit, to give us strength just as food would.

I believe, that should the spirit be strong enough in the Lord, not only will it sustain through an infirmity, but just might bleed through into the natural, giving strength to the body that may otherwise not have been there.

O grave, where is thy victory?

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for another session of your Word, and for all that it contains. Thank you for the strength that comes by way of using the understanding that you’ve given us, and applying it to our lives. Thank you also Lord, for sealing us with the Holy Spirit of Promise, the earnest of our inheritance. To you be all the glory and dominion forever and ever. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen
