Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 17 P. 238 – The Bribe

Proverbs 17: King James Bible

The Bribe – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter seventeen, Verse 23

23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – The Bribe

The verse above, is extraordinarily specific. This isn’t necessarily labeling the one who takes the gift as wicked, but rather the one with the perverse intentions.

This is a person, who’s prepared to give a gift, in order to influence someone who is in a position of authority. This is what we’d call a bribe.

Think about the need for someone to have to give a bribe, in order to sway someone in their direction. It should be a red flag right off the bat. If the idea or policy was so great in the first place, why would a bribe even be necessary?

This isn’t to say that there isn’t wickedness on the other side of the spectrum. There have been all kinds of cases, where the person that was in a position of authority required a bribe in order for them to do anything.

The most recent I can think of is the whole “pay to play,” scheme. I won’t get into it here, but it certainly is worth looking into. The whole idea is, you pay me, and I’ll do for you. This is just fine in the business world, but in the political world, it’s no good, and takes a whole new meaning.

But this verse above isn’t talking about the leaders involved, but those who are attempting to pervert judgement by way of a bribe.  The whole idea that the wicked person finds this necessary, must mean that without the bribe, or if the bribe doesn’t make any difference, that person will wind up in some sort of trouble.

I pay attention (probably too closely) to U.S. politics and the various things that go on in this country. I’d be willing to bet someone else’s house, that there are more bribes that go on in our government under the radar, to people who’s names we’ll never know, by the wicked that want to impress their wicked desires without regular Americans knowing about it.

But that’s starting to boil to the surface, as are many of the darker works going on in dark places. There are many in this country that are praying, that all things that are hidden in darkness in the federal and local governments, be forced to bear witness to the light.

It’s taken a bit, but there are some major things that are beginning to come to the surface, and swamp has set an extra guard on the drain plug! Since I’ve taken it there, I’d like to invite all of you, to pray that same bit of prayer concerning the federal government, local governments, and all of the many branches from the president to dogcatcher.

Why am I harping on today’s governmental issues? Because the reason that nobody trusts the government anymore, and the reason  why there are so many issues, can largely be because the same kind of people that are made reference to in the verse above!  Washington is chocked full of them, and those are just the ones we know about.

Pray Saints, and pray against those who would be willing to give a bribe for the sake of perverting good judgement.

Luke 12: King James Bible

56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? 57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right? 58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

John 7: King James Bible

24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Acts 8: King James Bible

20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Acts 13: King James Bible

10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

Thank you for the clarity of your Word, and for all of it’s contents. Lord, we ask that you shine a light on all of the inner workings of our local and national governments, that all dark things be rooted out, and that the wicked will be taken from their place, so that all things that are hidden, bear witness to the light. And may your will be done in this nation, as was the original intent because it’s all dedicated to you, no matter what the evil ones have proclaimed. You are Lord, and you are more than worthy. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Has anyone ever tried to sway you away from what you know is right, by way of the bribe?

  1. Goodmorning Brian,
Thank you for reminding us about bribes. In praying for our goverment that is one specific thing I had forgotten. We have been praying for truth to come forth.
In the Old Testament when there was a bad king the people followed his example turning away from God to worship the idols. When there was a good God fearing king the people followed his example.
Years ago a brother in the Lord he said a thought was impressed on his spirit that God was saying “I will give you the Leader you desever. That leader brought great moral shame to this country. His actions continue to influence our young people today.
We also pray for the Church worldwide to seek God’s face through the daily reading of the Bible & study.
    In Jesus name, Janet

    • Hi Janet,
Amen Sister! I believe the same thing, that the Lord grants a nation a ruler they deserve. So much prayer by all of the saints of the Lord, needs to go up for our current President, and all of the people whom the Lord has placed into position. They are all under constant demonic bombardment from around the world, as we as from within. Pray up Church! Send up your supplications to the Father concerning these things, and also that all things that are hidden under the cloak of the enemy, be brought to light in the media, as well as in the entertainment industry!
Thank you and God bless you for your comment Janet!
      In Christ,
