Proverbs 11: King James Bible
The Multitude of Counselors – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter eleven, Verse 14
14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses
The truth behind both sides of this verse are demonstrable. You can look at different governments, town hall meetings, city council meetings, any meeting or gathering, to make some sort of decision on something, or to hear however many sides there may be to an issue, in order to plot the best course for the desired outcome.
But personally, aren’t we supposed to go with whatever the Lord tells us to do? The answer to that would be yes. But there are many Biblical instances, where there were meetings and things of that nature, to make some sort of determination on something. We can see it going on in a couple of places in the book of Acts for example.
Sometimes, the Father would rather us hash it out with some sound council from others, to make a decision over something. Other times, it is often the case that the Lord gives your answer to someone else, but it may take a bit of humility or obedience for you to get there.
There’s no reason at all, to not bring something to the Lord, because he has your answer. In fact, all things should be brought before him before anyone else anyways (at least such is my opinion). But he does things in different ways for a variety of reasons. Sometimes we find out what those reasons are down the road a stretch, sometimes not. But his reasons are always for our good, our growth, and his glory.
There are several opportunities to get counsel out there. There are services available, there’s Church, there’s friends, family, coworkers, etc.. I’d suppose it would depend what the problem is in the first place, that should determine who you turn to for counsel.
The beauty of a multitude of counsel is, when you get it, the final decision is on your shoulders, and you weigh the advice given, and decide whether or not to go with it. That’s one of the reasons why it’s great to have a multitude of counsel, because of consensus. Not everyone will tell you the same thing.
Prayer should always be going on while trying to hash something out in your life. Especially if you’re in a situation that warrants a multitude of counsel. Through prayer, the Lord may set the correct answer in your spirit, regardless of how much more counsel you may receive from others.
When the dust settles, and the answer to an issue rests well in your spirit after much prayer, then you’re that much closer to do whatever it is to solve the problem, or at least get the ball rolling.
The opposite of this, would be to do what’s right in your own eyes, and risk making a mess out of things due to being ignorant to the correct answer, and being ignorant to how bad you’re messing up the situation, until it’s too late.
There are many different ways to apply this verse, and incorporate it into your lives. Perhaps it is also to get us introverts out of our own heads, and broaden the palate! Or maybe, to share in the benefit of what the Lord is saying to others?

Acts 6: King James Bible
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
Acts 20: King James Bible
27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Thank you for having the answers to all of our questions, and solutions for all of our problems. Should we need to take in counsel from anyone other than you to resolve anything, may you grant us the discernment and the wisdom to know when the answer is at hand, or the solution is made plain. Give us the confidence and resolve to follow through with all that you’d have us do. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Have you ever moved forward with something by yourself, without advice from the multitude of counselors that could have made your life much easier?
