The Power of Words

Here is a sermon titled The Power of Words by Shamel Lakins, which is as necessary today as it ever was. Perhaps even more so these days, as Christians and non Christians alike find it not a problem at all to fly off at the mouth concerning just about anything. Gossip reigns in too many hearts, and is promoted to do so by all worldly means.

So please take heed to this timely message by Brother Lakins. And I would like to encourage you to go look him up on his Google Plus account Shamel Lakins, and subscribe to his channel. He’s a true blessing and he’s got several wonderful messages for you to enjoy and bless your heart. Also, he operates his G+ Community called Desire Jesus, and has authored the Desire Jesus Collection that I’m sure will bless you as well.

Shamel LakinsThe Power of Words by Shamel Lakins

Grace and peace to you in the name of the Father and our LORD Jesus Christ, I write this to remind every Saint of God that words are important. We as the children of our Father ought to be mindful of what we convey to others. THE Bible declares, ” But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” (Matthew 12:36)

Words are so important that when God created all that exists, He used words to bring them forth, “Then God (SAID), “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3) Notice He spoke words, and there was light!

Again we can discern the significance of “Words” by The Word in the flesh Jesus Christ, when He makes this statement in Matthew 5:18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”Deuteronomy 30-19

Our LORD was declaring that not the slightest letter in Words spoken by God will not come to pass, Glory to God!

I believe one of the main reasons that people do not see divine and supernatural breakthroughs in their lives is because they neglect to say what God says. We must be in complete alignment, with the promises of the Bible.

We must not lean on our own short sighted understanding, we must cling to the very “Word” of God faithfully, daily, and perpetually. Make no mistake we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit, but why?

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

Perhaps Jeremiah gives us a good enough explanation on why we should lean on God’s word and not our own. He so wonderfully explains that fallen man has a heart condition, and it is grossly I’ll.

There is also another promise, and to me one of the best reasons to align our speech with the glorious words of God as also declared by Jeremiah, in the first chapter in the twelfth verse, ” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [actively] watching over My word to fulfill it.” (Amplified version).

The Word is AliveWhat a promise, God is telling us that He Himself is watching, looking intently over His Word to make it come to pass. Father also promises in Isaiah 55:11,

“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth;
It will not return to Me void (useless, without result),
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

So I say to you beloved, speak what God speaks, declare His inexhaustible promises over your life every waking day. Do so in the name of Jesus, Amen and Amen

Personally, I believe this to be a powerful message that is worth reading over a few times. Let the reality of the the message that the Lord has placed on Shamel’s heart cause for you to get into the Word of God and start learning what it is that he has said, that’s been given for us to speak. As quoted in the picture above, the Lord has placed blessing and cursing, life and death before us. Therefore, says the Lord, choose life!

But on a daily basis, how much life do we speak over ourselves or others? If we’re not speaking life, then what are we speaking? The book of proverbs is absolutely chocked full of wisdom about the tongue and speech, use of words in general. Please take heed to this message that Shamel is conveying, because it makes quite a bit of difference, not just in your life, but in the lives of those around you (as well as what’s to come before the Father).  We’ve got the tools in the form of a book called the Holy Bible. Jesus points the way:

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 6:

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Do you have a problem with control over what’s coming out of your mouth? I sure did. That is an area of my life that was an enormous hindrance to me as I struggled walking with the Lord. Finally the Lord stepped in and broke me of it, and is still to this day teaching me a new vocabulary, removed from cursing (either using swears or literally saying things that open spiritual doors for wickedness to do it’s work), and from the repercussions of half a lifetime being careless with anything I had to say.

Proverbs 15:

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Matthew 15:

11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

This is serious! And it is cause for great concern particularly for walking targets that these days are called Christians! So again, re-read all of this and look into the Word of God to replace curses with blessings, as you fill your heart with the Word of God, it’ll eventually wash out iniquities that cause for you to be hindered in your walk. Remember what the Lord said:

Matthew 4:

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Luke 6:

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The Power of WordsFill your heart with the treasures that will come from the Word of God, and let them come out of your mouth! Blessing and not cursing, speaking life, and not death! Praise the Lord God Almighty that he’s got us covered by the blood of the Lamb and takes the foolish things that we’ve said as far as the east is from the west from his sight! But that comes with repentance, and a willingness to be lead by the Spirit of the Living God.

  1. I enjoy reading this about words. Words do give life or death. Lately I have been talking about WORDS. We never know what seed we plant by our words. The thought of words being held against us, or we holding words against someone else. It came to me, that if God’s children do not get all our words spoken that may have offend someone under the blood, we just may all be looking into the eyes of each other in hell, and clawing each other’s eye balls out for letting their words cause us not to go on with God. So if there are words spoken, or actions that has offend anyone and we know it, we need to make it right with God and man. I sure do not desire to wake up in hell and clawing at anyones eyes because I held anything in my heart against anyone.
    God bless you

  2. For me it is a difficult thing to do because being a nurse it was hard not saying anything without anger when I knew family members were not following doctors orders or when families who abused their children beyond repair would be given back to them. Other than that I think I do OK , except for some reason I tend to argue with my daughter. She is trying to mother me and I certainly am not ready for that.

    • hi Jean,
I hear you. I worked for quite some time in a quick turn precision sheet metal shop. The mouths ran rampant, and even when I would try to watch my mouth, pressures, distractions, all kinds of things (if you ever worked in a shop type environment you’ll understand) that would cause for me to stop caring about what flew out of my mouth would happen daily. I was actually known to have an insult at the ready at any given moment, and would pride myself with the speed by which I’d let loose. It was a humor kind of thing. Hard to explain. But that needed to be done away with, and it took the Lord quite some time to wash that out of my system.

That’s an extremely short version of the poison that would fly from my face. Maybe in the future I’ll do up a whole post about it. Anyways, I said all that to say this… It isn’t easy at all particularly the circumstances you had brought up. But what the Lord did with me anyways, is to teach me to fill my heart with God’s Word, and keep what the Holy Ghost had written on my heart to come out of my mouth. Eventually (for me it was years), the bad stuff doesn’t come out as a knee jerk reaction if you know what I mean. For quite awhile I’d say a bunch of things and repent, over and over again all the time. Eventually, between filling up with the Word, and getting sick of repenting almost all of the time, swearing, spouting off at the mouth, etc., became a second option that I could reject, instead of an initial reaction. The Lord works through his Word for sure, and washes iniquities away through it. Sure, it may take some time, but the Lord knows your heart, and will be as patient with you as it takes. Remember, the Lord does not upbraid us when we have to keep coming back to him.

Thank you for this comment and God bless you in Jesus name.

    • I can completely understand Jean, it is vastly difficult to harness the tongue, I can recall James the brother of our LORD Jesus say, “Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! (James 3:5)

The tongue is one of the smallest members of our bodies, but has the power to get us in the biggest trouble. We encourage you to be mindful and watchful over your words, just think you can plant a seed and edify a nation, or you can speak the wrong words and burn down an entire forest. Choose life, God bless you and thank you for reading.

  3. Thank you for reading, and I pray this message has been a blessing to you. May our Father shower you with His favor, grace, and mercy. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen. – Shamel
