Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 6 P.54 – The Word of God

Proverbs 6: King James Bible

The Word of God – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter six, Verses 20-22

20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – The Word of God

Though there is common sense about listening to good advice that we receive from our parents, I’d be willing to bet that a majority of folks would reflect, and find that their parents weren’t the best of examples (to say it nicely) as they may relate to sound Biblical living or instruction. Nonetheless, listening to our parents is a commandment with a blessing.

When we read these verses, it’s important to realize that though parents are who is being brought up, the focus is actually on the Word of God. During Solomon’s day, it was customary for people to actually follow what the Lord told the Israelis to do, which was the following:

Deuteronomy 4: King James Bible

10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

The point is that the Father wants for us to get as much out of his Word as humanly possible, and has given us his Holy Ghost in order to aid us to get from it the things that are not humanly possible. That’s what he wanted for the children of Israel, and that’s what he wants for his people today.

But do we pay attention? The attack on the Word of God is palpable, as is using the name of Jesus for just about anything unless it’s being used in vain. The spiritual war is breaking loose into the physical, and day by day, the distinction between the wheat and the chaff are becoming more defined.

But even still, the Lord is pleading to his people, and to those who are rejecting him. Wisdom is still in the streets and at the gate crying to all who pass by to repent and be converted. We as Ambassadors of Christ Jesus are responsible to know what the Lord has said, what he wants, who he is, what he’s done, and also what he hasn’t said or done.

We’ll not be doing the Lord a service should we remain ignorant of the Word of God.

Your Word is without bounds in wisdom, knowledge and power. Help us to be good, responsible stewards of your Word, and may we be or become the examples that you’ve created us to be. Help us all to be obedient and merciful, as you’d have us be. In Jesus mighty name we pray.
